I’m in a Labour/Lib Dem marginal, so no problems here either.

Structurally it should swing Lib Dem: one of the highest remain proportions in the country and outside university term time so students will probably vote elsewhere.

In my area Libdem lost by 40 votes to the Tories last election, hopefully the much smaller Labour contingent can vote more tactically this time around. I’m also seeing heavy rains forecast tomorrow; if we’re lucky the temperature will drop too, and keep those old folks home, afraid of bad weather and slipping and breaking their hip.

I’m in an ultra safe Tory seat, so it almost doesn’t matter if I vote at all. But I’m going to vote Lib Dem anyway.

The local Tory snake is standing down, so these are my four choices:

Looks like the Lib Dem candidate isn’t even from around here, having stood for election in…Edinburgh…?!

At this rate, might end up voting Green.

Dennis Skinner is… 87, and this could be the year he loses his seat to the Tories after being in it since 1970.

I predict a decisive Conservative victory with a substantial majority of seats, though of course I hope they don’t win a single place in parliament.

Ah the old reverse jinx. Good job by you!

I’d tend to agree. Not much to suggest that the Tories won’t win the required majority to put their agenda through, unless something really weird happens…Invoking 2017 is kind of silly - for all that they overperformed, Labour still lost. There is no prize in politics for second place. A slim majority may make things a bit more tricky for Boris, but it’s still gives him the majority that he needs to do what he wants.

On the positive side for those of us outside, maybe he will finally get this over with? Not convinced he will (election promises are soon forgotten once they meet uncomfortable reality), but one can hope.

All his comments and promises on Brexit were lies. Especially around Ireland. The same issues that plagued May remain.

The end of the union is the one positive point from this. Nothing pleases me more than those fascist, racist fucks never being able to say the words “Great Britain” again

He does intend to “Get Brexit Done”. But the trade deal won’t be a great one (even after he extends the transition for a year) and he will ratfuck the unionists utterly on the NI border.

Polls in scotland aren’t looking good from this perspective. 55/45 against independence last time I saw one. I guess we’ll get a clearer view post-election.

Here we go then. Scary biscuits, it’s squeaky bum time. Are there any other politics nerds who will be staying up all night to watch the results come in? :)

I’m hoping for a comfortable Tory majority 30-50+ would be awesome but it wouldn’t surprise me if we end with a hung parliament. God, that would be truly awful. It would be the cherry on the Brexit impasse cake.

Post Brexit economic hardship and a Johnson English Nationalist Party loaded with anti-Scottish bigots will push them to independence.

The Scotch - what a verminous race!

Canny, pushy, chippy, they’re all over the place,

Battening off us with false bonhomie,

Polluting our stock, undermining our economy.

Down with sandy hair and knobbly knees!

Suppress the tartan dwarves and the Wee Frees!

Ban the kilt, the skean-dhu and the sporran

As provocatively, offensively foreign!

It’s time Hadrian’s Wall was refortified

To pen them in a ghetto on the other side.

I would go further. The nation

Deserves not merely isolation

But comprehensive extermination.

We must not flinch from a solution.

(I await legal prosecution.)

Poem published by Johnson when he was editor of the racist hate rag, The Spectator

And yes, I will be ignoring any “it’s just a joke” apologism. The Spectator continually publishes hate screeds.

The polls suggest a Tory victory and I’m skeptical that voters have the clarity of purpose and courage it takes to vote tactically. So, probably a Tory victory.

And let’s be honest - there’s no way Johnson is going to negotiate a deal with the EU in a year in good faith. If he’s got a working majority, he can carry on the ridiculous brinksmanship of the no-deal crashout, and refuse any extension beyond 2020.

Spotted in Sainsburys

Nice.

Well my plans are roughly

21:50 Prepare stiff drink
22:00 Exit poll
22:01 Wearily shake head in general direction of my fellow citizens
22:05 Start researching jobs and houses in Scotland
23:00 To bed, with less hope than I started the day with

  1. Watch movie (about to start)
  2. Do evening reading and journalling
  3. Sleep
  4. Check results tomorrow
  5. Decide how to mitigate a BoJo government
  6. Finish packing stuff to go back to Spain

I feel for you guys, I think I would have a sense of dread all evening. Don’t worry, though, I’m sure I’ll get my turn 11 months from now. :(
