I wasn’t offended, and I think I understand what calling him Chamberlain means, but at the end of the day, you’ll have people calling him Chamberlain same as you, but with an entirely different meaning, and Chamberlain supports both meanings.
Surely there were other incompetent negotiators in British history? If incompetent is truly what the deal is, I’m sure it’ll be rough, but I’m waiting on experts to break down what’s in there for me, and I don’t think the first few days prove much of anything except that people don’t deal well with change.
I’m still entirely sure that in the end Brexit will mean that in x years people will say that Britain is x% poorer than it would be, but it’ll still be Britain, AKA one of the richest countries in the world. Maybe amend that to England though, depending on how stuff goes.
Fwiw, Chamberlain was, imho, actually trying to do the right thing.
Had it worked (i.e. avoided a general European war) we’d be lauding him.
Ofcourse, he either couldn’t understand Hitler (and in fairness, was there a Hitler like model preceding Hitler? I mean, even the term genocide was something fairly new in world politics at that time, coined because of the Armenian experience at the beginning of the 20th century) or was wilfully ignoring the signs, or was taken in by Hitler’s charm (and not to deify him, but the man was charismatic. I mean, look at what modern day Hitler lite has managed to do, i.e. Trump, without the benefit of military service, a country severely in the doldrums, enemies at the gates and opportunities.)
What I am driving at is that if you make the case for Chamberlain being just incompetent but had the right idea, (and to be fair, this is more a thought experiment than anything) then BoJo fails to measure up even to Chamberlain, because Bojo isn’t trying to avert a repeat of an event in living memory that upended society and cost the nation 4 million dead (i.e. World war 1) and isn’t trying to stop the spread of communism either.
Instead he is harping on about sovereignty, whilst screwing over the country, and he is doing this knowingly.
So doesn’t measure up to Chamberlain, let alone Churchill.

After the horrors of WW1 I really can’t blame any European leader for desperately trying to avoid another conflict.
I dunno. Given that what Chamberlain was doing at the time was trading Czechoslovakia for his scrap of paper, I think some blame is warranted.
They made this mistake over and over again. When e.g. the Germans marched into the Rhineland, they were expecting the French to chuck them out and were astonished when the French did not. I think it is a matter of record that some general or other in the high command said that a single company of French poilus would have caused the Germans to withdraw.
Nah, he’s much closer to Churchill than Chamberlain- Churchill and BoJo would both throw anyone under the bus for ego or ‘the Empire’, and with added relish if it could be done racistly.

And almost none of them wearing their masks correctly. Sheesh.
That got an actual lol out of me, bravo sir :D
Sounds like Brexit’s main effect is going to be killing off a whole bunch of the UK’s own small and medium-size businesses.

So will getting the right documents be temporary or structural? I have a feeling it will be the latter. How long can these fisherman survive until the have thier IT-problems fixed?
I don’t even know what to say about this.
I guess I thought the summary was a joke. But it isn’t.
Well, JRM is himself a joke.
That must be from a Monty Python episode I haven’t seen.

It’s just Mogg trolling the Remainers.
More like its the trawlers getting trolled.
Difficult to muster up much sympathy at any rate. At least the seas may bounce back a bit from overfishing once most of the industry is in ruins.

Fucking over his supporters to own the remainers.
So how does that work exactly? I mean since remainers are likely to have empathy for their fellow humans I guess they will feel kinda bad for the brexiteers for whom brexit has destroyed their livelihoods. Doesn’t seem like an effective troll really.
Yes, that’s what political leaders are meant to do when faced with constituents suffering the results of their policies. I get that he’s a dick, but I don’t really get why saying oh, he’s only being a dick seems like a good retort to you.
