The headline states “their is a whiff of chumocracy” in the UK Conservative party.
The paywalled article presumably thinks that’s bad? Maybe because they prefer a full throated odor, dunno.

Apologies I assumed this was a free one.

For people who speak only American, can someone define “Chumocracy” in this context? The term seems to imply heavy nepotism but it’s not a term I’ve ever heard before now so I’m not 100% sure I have that right.

Oh, that makes more sense. I assumed it was about attracting sharks.

Not so much nepotism as the existence of a circle of unelected influencers. Chums are like buddies but rich. Johnson is always portrayed as having little money of his own and being eager to indulge those who’ll buy him new curtains.

It’s not super surprising coming from the FT, which these days sits roughly on the centre left of the newspaper political spectrum, albeit with a broadly pro-market bent, obviously.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. In America we call that “politics” so I didn’t realize British English had a different word for it.

Heh, very true, I guess the distinction is “old boys’ network” vs. “my family members.” Of course Trump did both.

Surprised it took them this long to be honest:

Yes, idiocy exists :O.

Ahhh, i think i got my fill of schadenfreude for today! Thanks!

Chicken shortage spreads to Nando’s, nation faces cheeky crisis.

Nando’s is out of chicken?

Shit.Just.Got.Real.

(Everything I know about Nando’s is from watching 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown)

I’m not sure whether this is caused by Brexit or just by the surfeit of fascists in these parts recently.

Things seem to be going better all the time.

Slave labor and unpaid seniors do the work in England? WTF.
