Brian Fargo is returning to the Wasteland for a third time

What you want is a time travel 4X, so you can travel back in time to start a new timeline (and keep access to the others)… Mmmm. That’s a cool idea.

It’s not 4X, but it’s got the multiple timelines thing covered.

I mean, that’s exactly what I said too. Make save scumming much less convenient.

Fixed random seed would work even better. A more elegant solution.

Another review. I like ACG’s content.

Maybe the mechanics themselves are the problem in this case? Who enjoys countless skill checks for opening a bunch of random containers, goddammit!? I get that they need something to make the environments less static (Pillars has the same problem!), but probabilistic skill checks for traps and containers - which hardly matter in any case - are annoying and the opposite of fun… And that’s coming from someone who finished both Pillars and Wasteland 2!

I’m generally fine with some RNG in my videogames, but I would be fine with a “You must have a lockpick skill of 4 to open this chest” straight-up, too.

That’s a much better solution, in my opinion.

Recommendations / suggestions on playing WL2 first or just skip to 3?

I’d definitely play it, DC version is a legitimately fun RPG.

The character creation looked a bit intimidating; are the stock characters good enough for a first run?

Was really encouraging to me. I had fun in Fallout with character creation for this reason. When they have images like that, and lots of information presented in a fun way, then it’s fun for me to spend lots of time with it. But if it’s just a list, then I’m looking for a way to get past it easily by going with stock characters.

For WL2 most of the companions you can recruit are kind of trash. You may want to read up on them so you don’t accidentally duplicate skills with the good ones.

Only one character in the party has to have any particular skill. You also want to diversify weapon types so your party is not competing for ammo as much.

Well, it seems it’s reviewing well, interest renewed!

Except Scotchmo, he’s classic. Glad to see he’ll be back in Wasteland 3.

Well, since I took the advice earlier and got myself a Game Pass subscription, and already have WL3 installed. I suppose I just might have to check it out right away instead of waiting. So much for life (i.e. the rest of my games) if this turns out to be the quality the reviews point towards.

What kind of hoops do you have to jump through for a gamepass?

None. I paid $1 & got the Xbox launcher app for Windows. Away I went. It’s all tied to your MS account so if you already have that then you should be good (otherwise you might have to fully sign up, but I can’t say).

This page should hopefully be all you need.

Yeah, I was there. No way I can clear up 150GB right now. :(

Are you talking about Flight Sim? Wasteland 3 is supposed to be about 60GB.

In the old days I would have made a joke about trimming the porn collection, but I don’t think anyone does that anymore.

In before Alistair tells you to buy a new hard drive.
