Aha! an American solution i can get behind :) So stusser i guess max out a STR character, give him a sledge hammer, and no more save scumming?

Looks really good. Playing with the ‘asshole’ quirk. It just seemed appropriate.

A couple of spoilers that new players may not want to read:
Good stuff. Not game breaking.
[spoiler]Angela Deth has a pretty good bash ability. For those that don’t have lockpick. Although why don’t you?
Always remember to tell Solveig Sefors 61290 for Southwestern Folklore.
I am an asshole in real life.

DC doesn’t work with existing save game, does it?

No, not according to the FAQ you need to start a new game.
Syzygy is right. It’s a whole new install. (Smaller than the original, actually.) There are apparently far too many fundamental changes to make saves compatible.
Ugh lol guess I’ll have to start this over for a third time now! I keep getting half way through and then waiting for the next patch. Though now I think it’s finally safe to plow on through at least.

Does anyone know of any online resources for character generation suggestions? I am wondering whether to just go with the default party or to take the extra time to generate by hand.
Generate your party by hand. Once I decided to ignore the mix-maxer within me and just say “fuck it, Imma create a leader d00d, a brawny d00d, a sniper/thief d00d, and a medic d00d, and if they suck in the game well then now I know,” I felt much better.
And lo and behold my non-ADHD, “that skill/perk sounds kinda cool and nobody else has it so I picks that” characters seem to be doing fairly well. Nobody’s died yet through most of the slog known as The Ag Center.
I haven’t seen any guides for the DC, though I expect people will have powered through and compiled info on the rebalancing in the next few days.

Apparently the game has a bug with dismissed companions, they don’t show up in the Citadel (or where you recruited them) once they are dismissed.

Pretty big blunder if true.
From that thread, it seems that if you dismiss a companion via the inventory menu, they go poof, but if you have a full party and swap a new one in for one you have, the one you have will appear in the Citadel. So it might be a case of no one, um, bothering to check both ways of doing it…
Oh, and fuck Gila Monsters that can move and attack twice with a 95% hit probability, doing 19-20 damage each time…
… while my guys miss several 60-70% shots in a row. Yeah, OK.

I started over again and am halfway through Arizona already. It’s been awhile since I last played, but I remember it being an amazing love-letter to classic CRPGs where the gameplay and UI needed a lot of polish.
It has that polish now.
I edited my characters to have 10 strength (no melee fighters, so only for encumbrance) and maxed out lockpicking, safecracking, and demolitions. This reduced my savescumming to zero. So much more enjoyable.
The release version was a flawed masterpiece in Arizona, now it’s just a plain masterpiece. Hopefully it holds up through LA.
Not perfect, certainly. The inventory management is still annoying in particular. It’s not quite up to recent classics like the first Dragon Age. But it’s well worth your time if you haven’t played yet.

Too bad they polished off that nice monospace font :(.

The game does appear to have a pretty serious memory leak-- you can watch its memory usage rise steadily over time. Have to restart it every 2 hours or so. I’m sure they’ll fix it.

Strength also determines health, just for the record.
So with the DC, are noticeable changes in Highpool or the Ag center? I did both on two different partial runs, so I’m still trying to decide which way to go now. Probably the Ag center. Any ideas?
