It is quite easy to mod the save file since it can be opened in notepad. Just search and modify values. For example you could search for availableAttributePoints and change the “0” to 5 so every character could have 5 more attribute points.

The Ag Center is still a long and vaguely annoying trip. Haven’t done Highpool.

For a while I was like, packs of mutated rabbits are worse than gila monsters. But now I’m like, fuck the gila monsters. Very much so.

Wasteland was probably the first or second RPG I ever completed. I bought it out of a bargain bin in the mall software store in middle school, and I haven’t revisited it until now.

So this is weird. There are so many little things that I sort of remember - names and nouns and whatnot. There are definitely things that stick with me 25 years later, but there’s a lot I don’t remember at all.

URABUTLN

Anyone else here using the asshole quirk? Have you noticed that your character has a permanent cloud of flies circling him/her? Zoom in.

Lol. I’m using that quirk and didn’t notice. Will check next time I fire it up.

Yeah they’re just XML files. Easiest savegame editing ever. I used to hex edit DOS savegames back in the day with PC tools. This is better.

It took a staggering amount of points to max out lockpick/demo/safecrack/alarm disarming, though. I cheated, like, 150 points for this. Eliminating savescumming is worth it.

Far be it from me to judge someone else for cheating in a single-player game! :) But doesn’t the game balance out okay without savescumming? Or is the power curve such that you’re really at a disadvantage for not unlocking every container? My instinct is to trust that the designers tuned everything appropriately, but maybe that’s not the best approach.

In my first playthrough, with the original, I stopped really obsessing about the containers about half-way, and it didn’t hurt me in terms of power. I’m just naturally obsessive though, so it took some effort. Early on, before you have much money, the ammo from containers is really userful, but after a while, eh…

I guess I was lucky in my new game. I had enough cash after the Ag Center to get a decent sniper rifle and a really good handgun. The end of…

Stuff if you haven’t gotten there yet.

…going through the destroyed Highpool and fighting a shitload of gilas went pretty easily. Before I went back to the Ranger Center I thought I was dead. Low health and no healing kits. But things worked out. The new arms made things acceptable instead of annoying. Now in the Prison area, but not yet the prison itself.

Then I ended up killing

and I’m getting ready for a
Boom!

prison break. Except for the guys that throw the fucking dynamite.

I’m enjoying this enough that I’m worried about games coming out soon. Who has the time if you’re deep into a game like WL2DC to start a Fallout 4 ?

The only thing worth save scumming is Toasters if you go that route.
Everything else is just generally"Random Loot Box" so missing one or two doesn’t matter much.

You totally don’t need to do it. But I’m one of those people that can’t leave an unlooted container behind. WL2 has a ton of them. They’re everywhere.

Anyone in Damonta yet? I can’t seem to leave the town-- every time I try to return to the world map, the loading bar freezes up 90% of the way complete. Tried a bunch of times, at both the north and south world map points. Kinda bummed out about it.

It is just somewhat surprising that you call this a polished masterpiece and yet feel the need to play a different version than the vision the developers intended.

Someone at inxile forums reported the same issue, he’s also stuck at 90%. Unless that was you reporting the bug, heh.

More and more bugs reports are coming in, both on steam and official forums. Kinda unfortunate, since the game is called Director’s Cut, but I guess with the engine port it was to be expected.

I shelved this for now, I really was looking forward to a second replay and waited for the DC version, but I’m finding that coming off of Pillars of Eternity I’m enjoying this less than I did before (though I like the upgraded visuals and the perks!) and also I already struggled through this game once before while it was fairly buggy, so I think it would be best to leave it for later when it’s received a few more post-Director’s Cut updates.

Yes, that’s me.

@jellyfish: The irony isn’t lost on me-- what can I say, I love the game with my modifications.

Game breaking bugs aside: If I’ve never played Wasteland 2 before, should I play the “original” Wasteland 2 or the new “Director’s Cut”?

I couldn’t play the original as it had some terrible font-sizing issues on 5:4 monitors. They fixed that, but they I couldn’t be bothered to play. When I was bothered, I heard they were making a massive update (the directors cut). Now that it’s here… it’s a second entry in my Steam list. Which makes me think there’s some worth to playing the non-director’s-cut version.

Is there? Or should I just delete it and install the new one?

There is no real reason to play the original, just play the DC.

The Director’s Cut isn’t compatible with the original release’s saves, so there’s a separate entry for people that might want to finish a playthrough. There’s no other reason to go with the original.

Definitely play the DC, not the original.

I fixed my problem, by the way-- a section of my savegame was corrupted, so I copied it from an earlier save.
