I fizzled out in LA. Knowing there are two “get X bags of Y to unlock a new area” quests in a row just killed my desire to keep playing. I had plenty of fun in the first part of the game and the early part of LA - definitely don’t regret the purchase.

They’re just the reason why you’re doing stuff. You don’t need to search for cat litter and zeolite; explore and do the quests from each area and you will get more than enough.

I made it all the way to the end with the DC. Fantastic game.

OMG. I finally decided to play this since the first patch came out for Director’s Cut, fired it up, made a party, and played through the radio tower and about 2/3 of Ag Center. Then I realized that I didn’t know what these perks were, and discovered that Director’s Cut is an entirely different executable that I hadn’t thought to look for, not just an update to the Wasteland 2 game. Argh.

My playthrough was 40+ hours. Start over and do highpool this time, you won’t have too much duplication.

ok, I’ll do that.

I guess this explains why I couldn’t find the patch notes for the big patch…

OFFS! I just checked after reading that and discovered I was doing the same thing! I hadn’t owned WL2 prior to the release of Director’s Cut and just assumed that’s the version it would put in my library when I registered the game. NOPE, there’s a “Wasteland 2” and a Wasteland 2 : Director’s Cut", and I installed and have been playing the former. Damn it In Exile!!!

Looks like I will be uninstalling, reinstalling and starting over. Highpool here I come… Sigh.

a few bugs I’ve run into so far in the DC:

I had a graphics issue where the screen would start flashing white or red when I went into a character screen, then shortly after that a CTD. Doesn’t look like there was any corruption though.

Not sure if this applies to all of the help-a-villager quests in Highpool, but I did the mayoral election and then went to turn in the quest item to Jess-Belle and she acted like I’d already solved it and didn’t give me a reward and I still have the item.

oh also I took “Fainting Goat” as a quirk and of the two times it’s triggered, once it put me down for about two rounds and then the guy got killed, and the other time the fight ended and he got up but still had the “Fainted” status and Zs coming out of his head for a very long time.

You, sir or madam, are the real MVP.

Started over with the actual Director’s Cut this time. From the first scene the game already looks better (graphically speaking). In character creation I didn’t take any of the new “quirks” or whatever they are. They all seemed to have too much downside to be worthwhile over just having nothing at all. Maybe the one that gives you one less skill point in Levels 1-10 but an extra one in level 11+ would be handy, except it’s already a struggle to keep skills high enough in the early levels without that handicap.

Looking forward to replaying the early game now that I know what I’m doing AND can benefit from the improvements in the Director’s Cut.

I have found the Asshole perk to be very useful. IMO the only real downside is that your character is constantly surrounded with a cloud of flies.

You consider that a downside?

Nah. Not really. Anyway who wastes water on bathing? It’s a wasteland.

Mysophobic, the one that gives you a bonus to heal others but means you can’t heal yourself, is very good assuming that you have a second healer in your party (which you likely would anyway). Asshole looks good though I didn’t take it. Brittle Bones is good in general, probably better for a sniper. Thick-Skinned is similar to Brittle Bones.

I’ve been replaying this recently (never got into LA in release version) and it really feels like a nice improvement over the vanilla version. I’m not sure if it’s just my imagination but the graphics seem much better now, UI improvements are great (Distribute button, omg <3), combat seems to be a bit faster and the game just feels more fun in general. I also don’t remember there being this much text in the first part of the game, is this one of the additions to DC or has it always been there?

I am thinking of starting my current campaign over though, so far every time I’ve played I saved Ag Center and I’d like to see Highpool version for a change. Plus I’m interested in how VC fares as a combat character, I always keep Rose in the back line and let my 3 combat specced rangers do bulk of the heavy lifting. She’s pretty great as a surgeon/hacker and has a lot of flavor dialogue but the spoiler I’ve read is pretty much the main reason I want to get rid of her.

Also, how is the weapon balance at endgame? At the stage I’m in the ARs are outclassing every other weapon so much that it feels pointless to use anything else.

The game still has its minor annoyances though. I’m not particularly fond of the idea that recruitable companions have a set level when you recruit them. Or that you can’t go back to shrines to upgrade your companions that you’ve picked up after the shrine had been used. Or that there are so many completely useless white items in the game - I’m regularly tabbing between the game and my browser just to check which of these I should be carrying with me. For all the modern approaches, especially regarding UI design, some areas of the game still feel like they were plucked right out of 1998.

Graphics were improved, yeah.

Restarting and picking Highpool turned out to be an excellent decision. I’ve ended up with a much more combat capable party (Pizepi, Ralphy, Vulture’s Cry) and I also like their personalities more. Not to mention that the quest was simply better done than Ag Center.

Ag Center was a pain in the ass, but Rose is a wonderful combat medic and her robot abilities pulled my party’s ass out of the fire more than once.

How much of the game is there after Damonta/Silo7? Please say like half because I’m enjoying the shit out of this game. DC (now that it’s patched and relatively bug free) completely reversed my opinion on the game.

Since I happened to run across it today: The Digital Antiquarian did an article on the development of the original Wasteland, with his incomparable thoroughness. Good read.
