Bush: No Favortism in Getting into Guard

But I admitted I made a mistake.

So did Bush, which disproves ydejin’s assertion.

I think if you check the record you’ll see he said “Miscalculation” not “Mistake”.

Which is still something which might suggest that he’s not perfect. Contrary to ydejin’s assertion.

I’m not sure. After all, “miscalculation” can assume that some elements were out of your control. Therefore you remain perfect, although the world is trying to tear you down.

Except he admitted he miscalculated.

You’re incorrigible, and not in a cute way.

Still, I’m right. So I’ve got that going for me.

Not really.

Actually, yes.

He probably also believes that his ‘C’ average got him into Yale.

Really, my mistake was too solidly proving you wrong.

Chet

I’m right.
No you’re not.
Yes I am.
No you’re not.
Yes I am.
No you’re not.
Yes I am.

A principled, intelligent conservative might defend Bush’s presidency, but there’s no way a principled and intelligent person can believe that Bush got into the Guard fairly.

I’ve mislaid my copy of Molly Ivin’s Shrub, but she talks about Bush’s unit, which was filled with the sons of politically-connected Texas money, being an arm of Texas’ famously corrupt state government. Are we to believe that Barnes got all these other kids in, but he is lying when he says he got Bush in? Are we to believe that the fundamental unfairness and corruption of the Vietnam-era draft and draft avoidance, which was a major factor in engendering the anti-war protests, was just an invention of those liberal '60s longhairs?

Of course, I suppose Bush himself might genuinely believe that he got into the Guard fairly. He is so used to privilege and so oblivious that he might never have figured it out.

Chet, your mistake is thinking that you’re right.

More history from our brave and resolute leader:

The White House said seven months ago that it had released all the records on President Bush (news - web sites)'s stateside military service during the Vietnam War, yet new records are still dribbling out as Election Day approaches.

The White House on Wednesday night produced a November 1974 document bearing Bush’s signature from Cambridge, Mass., where he was attending Harvard Business School, saying he had decided not to continue as a member of the military reserve.

The document, signed a year after Bush left the Texas Air National Guard, said he was leaving the military because of "inadequate time to fulfill possible future commitment

Bush needed to take a physical exam by the end of July 1972 to keep flying. But he skipped the physical and his commanders grounded him in August 1972. Bush never flew for the military again.

The White House said Bush skipped the exam because he expected a transfer to an Alabama unit which did not have the F-102A jets Bush was trained to fly. Bush has said he went to Alabama to work on the unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign of Winton Blount, a family friend.

“The president was transferring to Alabama to perform equivalent duty in a non-flying capacity, making a flight physical unnecessary,” the White House said.

The White House did not answer whether Bush disobeyed a direct order to take the exam.

So, he quit as soon as he could.

Good thing the White House released “all the documents” months ago.

Am I wrong?

No…

Am I wrong?

You’re not wrong, Walter, you’re just an asshole!

The story of Ben Barnes is extremely complicated.

Here’s an admittedly partisan source that details the issues. Even though the site is partisan the facts should be verifiable.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1202419/posts

Issue 1: Barnes is a huge Kerry fundraiser.

Issue 2: Barnes exact quote was that he got Bush into the guard when he was Lt. Governor, but the fact is he wasn’t the Lt. Governor at the time Bush got into the guard. He was apparently the speaker of the Texas house at the time.

Of course it’s possible that he did attempt to help Bush, and clearly people with influence and connections get better deals than others, but this guy is a very shady character and it’s not clear to me that we should simply take his word.

The commander of the TANG, the guy that made the decision, completely contradicts Barnes account.

So here’s the summary:

Kerry Partisan claims he got Bush into guard

vs.

Retired conservative general says nobody influenced him

Seems like a wash to me at the very least.

Squirrel Killer, since we now heard bush tonight talk about your link directly, I will save you the embarrassment and just accept your apology in advance.

Chet

This thread is funny.

“Bush thinks he is perfect and he lies about favoritism!”
“No he hasn’t done either, here’s the proof.”
“Yeah but still!”

No, not “yeah but still”. If he didn’t fucking do it, stop trying to say he did. What is this, the fifth or sixth time QT3 left-leaning activists have done this in as many months?

Democrats: learn the lesson. THERE IS PLENTY OF TRUE THINGS THAT SUCK ABOUT BUSH. YOU DON’T HAVE TO MAKE UP ADDITIONAL LIES OR SPIN TO MAKE IT LOOK WORSE THAN IT IS. You’re like fucking Linux zealots sometimes (the bad ones).
