Buying a barebones for gaming - lil' help here

I’m in the market for a barebones PC. I work for Best Buy, so I’ll be buying a hardrive and an graphics card with my discount, I just don’t feel comfortable putting together the motherboard, cpu etc…Anyone have any recommendations or tips?

  1. I lean towards Newegg if possible, had good experiences with them in the past.
  2. Getting an 8800GT, so I guess I’ll need mucho (macho?) power
  3. Core 2 Duo is what I’m thinking
  4. I’m gonna reinstall XP

I’m gonna do some research now, but thought I’d make use of anyone elses experiences with barebones sytems.

Just get a 500+W PSU and you’ll be fine for power unless you plan on going SLI at some point. Remember to check the rails for enough amps; it’s something people wouldn’t often think about and no matter what the total wattage of the PSU is, if you don’t have enough amps to supply what’s attached, you’ll be in trouble.

I happen to be positive about Vista, but that’s from experience. If you feel more comfortable with XP, there’s no reason not to stick with it. As for the processor, you can’t go wrong with a good C2D and it’ll last you a while yet.
