Bye bye sanctions

Looks like the Iraqi sanctions are finally over and done with.

Of special interest for me is the statement that they will be reevaluating whether or not to comply with the $10 billion in contracts that currently exist in the oil for food program.

Most of these contracts are held by Russian companies. I’m hoping the contracts are left in place as a kind of “no hard feelings” gesture.

Well, oil-for-food continues for six months. France and Russia have the lion’s share of those contracts. The original proposal had oil-for-food phased out in 4 months.
