Can someone help me figure out what memory this is? (56k warning)

<warning> big picture!

I need some computer sleuthing help

I took a scan of some memory I pulled out of an older computer and I can’t figure out what type of memory this is. Can someone help me indentify it (note: it is double sided memory)?

Thanks!

I can’t really help you out with this one. Maybe Vede or Lloyd could. In a pinch, I’d put it back in the system you got it from, download Sandra and have it tell you what it is.

According to Google, the 16x64 notation seems to refer to 128MB. I assume there are also 8 black chips on the other side of the memory stick, which means it is double-sided.

I’m going to guess it’s a 168-pin 128MB PC100 or PC133 SDRAM. I don’t know how to distinguish between the two speeds, and wouldn’t be able to tell you whether the stick is ECC or non-ECC.

I’m just an amateur who builds my own systems, so my views should be rapidly discarded if one of the regulars disagrees with me.

That would make sense, as 16x64 Mbits is 128 MB.

ECC Ram is quite rare, an unlikely to have been in some old computer.

You could always just put it in a computer by itself (assuming you can get hold of something that accepts SDRAM) and see what the BIOS says (Don’t let it boot an OS until you’ve removed the stick and put back in the old RAM)

ECC ram wasn’t really all that rare that I remember. I think it was pretty standard for whatever generation it was used in.

jpinard, we need to work on your google-fu.

Just google the part number: D4564841G5-A10-9JF

You’ll find this page and this page.

enjoy!

Thanks! I had 6 old computers in the basement closet…most of them with blown motherboards or powersupplies. So I couldn’t just boot it up. I decided to clean the closet out, and stripped as much as I could from each system. I also got several SB Awe64 sound cards and some ancient PCI Trident video cards, and a 10 Meg ethernet controller.

In addition I inhaled 40 tons of dust cough

That’s a pretty big ram chip. What is it? 200 gig on that thing?
