Can we do a scientific study that shows “thoughts and prayers” don’t work?

Technically, the placebo effect works. The effect is also increasing over time in the USA. We’re somehow becoming more freaking credulous.

I suppose thoughts and prayers are better than taking “natural herbal medicines”, as long as you aren’t giving any money to churches and whatever.

I fall into this camp. I think when most people say that they are merely expressing their hope that things will get better. When a loved one dies, or is sick it an expression of hope for them.

Even my anti-religion cynical side won’t say that that is a bad thing.

I much more detest the “It’s God’s will” comment.
