This is an example of Chappelle doing something arrogant and stupid, something so stupid that it goes predictably wrong, and then doubling down on the stupidity because of the arrogance. The story here isn’t teenagers are arrogant and stupid, because that’s a non-story.

That is often an overstatement, but to the trans community, who are often killed for who they are, it isn’t.

I mean, if you’re white and affluent, transitioning isn’t super duper dangerous, but most of the folks who transition aren’t white and affluent.

I mean, I don’t want an entirely sanitized world, but some humor does bring more cost than benefit. I think we all agree on my first statement, the issue is what crosses that line.

A good idea is generally to listen to the marginalized communities on humor. Not a fringe of the community, but the more mainstream elements.

The person on the apology education tour does, or what was he doing there, snarking at kids up to 16?

“Your [spread of] <insert bigotry reference here> [leads to] kills” isn’t new rhetoric. You might disagree that the thing added to it, but it’s not “ridiculous hyperbole, and shitty” to put speech in that context using those terms.

I just can’t get over a multi-millionaire celebrity telling an auditorium of kids that he’s better than any of them at everything. How much of your own farts do you have to sniff to get that high on arrogance?

Uh, what? How would that possibly imply such a thing? I don’t think the kid meant to say Dave’s statements are responsible for any and all deaths of trans people.

They.Are.Teens.

Also that is my take. Exactly.

True, but that doesn’t mean that they are without merit.

In fact, it might pay to listen to what they say, since they will be paying for our social security, be our doctors, our nurses, our engineers, our garbage men, or whatever when we are old and grey.

I guess I am more sensitive to the actual dead person in the story. And the image of a bunch of irate teens is not helpful at all.

But why do they need to be compared? How is the person in the story even relevant here?

What are we comparing? Who is the person in the story? WTF are you talking about?

This. I’m trying to understand your take.

Dave’s friend who died, which he talked about. A LOT.

Um, I know that. You’re the one who asked who the person in the story is after mentioning the person in the story.

Doubtful.

Um, I really do have to ask here, what are you on about? You seem confused by statements you yourself made literally moments ago.

I mean we literally just had this exchange

I was asking you who you meant.

The person you referred to. Which is why I used your literal words. You know, to avoid confusion.

I mean I wasn’t suddenly bringing up Brandi Carlile ;)

I hate alcohol.

There was miscommunication, suddenly.

No worries.

Dave Chapelle… literally.
