Canon VIXIA HF R700 video vs point and shoot

I’ve been using a Panasonic ZS20 point and shoot for my photos and video. The video is pretty good in good lighting and when there isn’t too much motion (either the subject or slow camera panning). The quality is definitely lacking in medium light and in other situations too at times.

Do you know if a cheap camcorder like the Canon VIXIA HF R700 would be a lot better, or if it really wouldn’t be much of an improvement? It looks like I could get one for $200, but if it would only be slightly better I’d rather spend that Christmas money elsewhere.

I regularly use the HF R600 to shoot video, but it is usually on a tripod. Sound quality is good, but my comparison was to cell phone video (Nexus 6P).
