Can't access Qt3 from XP desktop

This problem pre-dates the switch to new forum software and is therefore unrelated. On an older desktop running XP, I can’t get to Qt3 forum.

I can access qt3 (as I am now) using the same DSL signal on my Win7 laptop. This problem occurs using Firefox 18.0.2.

–I did the ipconfig /flushdns suggestion, but it made no difference.
–I tried turning off the firewall, same result.
–I tried using Google Chrome, same result.
–I tried disabling the anti-virus (McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i), same result.

Suggestions, anyone?

My only idea is the try another browser. Download chrome and see if that can view QT3. Maybe you just have an ancient version of IE that the new software doesn’t recognize.

Will do. I should have included: using Firefox 18.0.2.

I’m using XP SP3 and Firefox 18.0.1 and I can get here just fine.

edit - 18.0.2 works fine as well.

Chrome yields the same result. It must be something about my XP configuration.

Maybe you have a “firewall” that do something weird with the browser requests? like removing the Host: part.

Thanks for the suggestion, just tried turning firewall off, but got the same result.

Also tried disabling the anti virus stuff, same result.

Check your hosts file? Alternately, try adding a hosts file entry?

CL, many thanks! I tracked down the hosts file and found this entry:

64.131.72.156 www.quartertothree.com

I simply deleted the Qt3 entry, and voila! Access is now fine. I have no idea how that entry got in there, but whatever.

This has been a problem for a while, but I was too lazy to try to figure it out. Thanks for making it easy.

That is the old IP address from years back, before we switched hosts. There was a period when DNS didn’t work and a bunch of people hardcoded it.

Your DNS probably got poisoned. Reset it, check your hosts file too.

Heheh, I was probably one of those people, and this has probably not worked for me since you switched hosts. Thanks.
