The Rocket Racing League is getting off the ground, and Carmack’s rocket engines are doing the driving. Armadillo Aerospace finally got to upload their news of what they’ve been doing for the last six months. Check it out.
They’ll be going into production later this year. World’s first civilian production rocket-powered aircraft, anyone?
Admittedly, it’s not useful for much beyond racing (it can only fire for a couple of minutes before burning all its LOX), but in terms of experience Armadillo will get with production rocketry, it’s invaluable. And it’s a direct step on the way to Armadillo’s planned multi-module suborbital vehicles. Plus, it’s money for Armadillo.
