This is driving me up a wall…
I figured I’d install the Catalyst 7.8 drivers to get ready for the Steam BioShock release (out Friday in EU). Uninstalled the old drivers, installed the 7.8. I take a look at the Control Center, and AGP and PCI write and read are turned off in SMARTGART. I click ‘retest all’, and everything turns on again. Reboot, and they’re turned off again. Now, I’ve had this problem before, even worse actually, because my AGP speed got turned down to 1x as well, with older drivers, so I did a search, and the fix is to reinstall the GART mobo drivers (ASUS K8N-E Deluxe). No prob, I think, I’ll do the same thing. Wrong. I reinstall the mobo drivers, reboot, and my desktop comes back at 640x480 and 4 bit color. To make a long story short, I spent 2 hours uninstalling and reinstalling crap in different orders, downloaded the latest ASUS drivers, etc etc, but nothing will get the AGP and PCI read and writes back on. Finally I gave up and went back to the 7.6 Cats, bang, everything’s on again correctly. Anyone else run into this?
