Yeah, Shadowfire would totally be a member of the Teen Titans. Maybe make her nemesis an evil teen counterpart, a la Terra or Blackfire, or perhaps a serious deadly type, a la Deathstroke.

Well, it’s pretty hard to make a teen male hero with the editor unless it’s like 17-19, though I could make a female one. Her first nemesis is Dark Age, a former teacher at her highschool she got fired because he was planting arcane runes and sigils to siphon the youth from the students to himself. He figured he could take a little bit of life from so many young people, it’d go unnoticed. He didn’t count on her magical and investigative ability outing him.

Okay, that’s a pretty awesome Nemesis background.

OR you could do it yourself. I’m not saying there’s a great story, just that there is a story.

From what i picked up not really looking in to it:

Dr. destroyer destroyed Detroit (i won’t go in to if this is technically possible or not), they made Millennium city in its place which brought about the rise to power of the champion group or whatever they’re called. Aforementioned group is fighting super villains and throwing them in jail for great justice. There are a bunch of other super hero groups too around the world doing the same thing against their respective super villain counterparts. The end?

I guess the telling part is that is all i remember of it and 99% of what i know about the plot is from loading screens, not the game itself.

don’t forget the French Canadian separatists terrorist group!!!

This is a thread about champions online, not real life (ducks poutine).

It is basically just generic super hero groups vs generic super hero villain groups with none of them really standing out to me, but i’m only level 25 so maybe it changes. Most of the information about them comes from loading screens which tend to load too fast to read it all! Some of it is actually mildly interesting like the guy who gets in a mountain climbing accident so his father kidnaps him and bribes a super villain to replace his damaged limbs with cybernetics. He later goes on to become some power armor guy whose name i forget.

It is telling that the characters i felt most attached to throughout my entire experience with CO were my anti social marine squadron in the prison stronghold instance. Co has just done a horrible job making players interested in the npcs beyond “hey this guy is attacking me”, worse than CoX i’d personally say and worse than nearly any mmorpg i’ve played (if you played UO, you probably still remember lord british and maybe even blackthorne, same for wow with nef). I don’t want to say it has to do with hellgate “hey lets make npcs only say annoying comical but not funny one liners so that the player totally disregards the story in disgust” london influence, but it is hard not to, very hard.

Agreed, the story in CO is weaker than in any other MMO I’ve played: even sad AC2 at launch with its total lack of NPCs at least had some interesting vault slideshow sequences, and even some Korean free to play games I’ve tried have had a more obvious story in terms of their connected quest themes.

The best overarching MMO story I’ve seen was in Earth & Beyond, which you might expect considering their high quality quest writing. Pity the gameplay was so weak.

“You fool, Kill the one in the dress!”

it’s so sad that the event didn’t scripted it so mobs switch aggro to the squishies…

Nice!

It was still a very cool event though. I liked that instance, the upper section at least…

Well supposedly The Patch goes live tomorrow.

I might respec my lightning hero back to Telekineses which she formerly was, but probably will just leave it as is as i really only have time to level up my munitions hero. I really want to start leveling my level 9ish fire guy again, but not sure what i will do with him. He is currently too weak for me to want to play much and they’re nerfing pyre so he will be even weaker. Maybe i will respec him since i really want to like fire (because an 8 foot burning demon looks pretty damn cool if i do say so myself, and i do).

Here is hoping their economy rebalancing doesn’t make the problem even worse like when they “lowered” respec costs that one time and the prices actually went up. I’ve heard multiple reports that respeccing something deep in your character’s history is still nigh impossible though.

Just felt like posting some action shots of my Darkness heroine, Crimson Queen.

CQ using Dark Embrace on some mutants:

CQ Lifedraining this officer:

CQ in Shadow Form, looking kind of pissed off:

And CQ shedding her Shadow Form, and looking pleased with herself:

Very stylish Balut. :)

I was thinking of starting a blog called Fashion Fantastics that was a Champion’s Online heroes fashion watch. I’d make a post a day of a costume and a critique of it. Today, I saw a pretty awesome mutant but was grouping so didn’t want to ask him to take the time to pose for a picture. The screen shots suffered because of it. : /

This promises to be awesome. They pushed out this patch after roughly two days on the patch server, with many, many threads on the PTR forum discussing problems in the patch, none of which have been addressed. However, rejoice! Respeccing will TOTALLY be reasonable now.

Previously, retconning a single power at level 20, when all of your other points were spent, would have cost you 29 National and 73 Local (2973) Resources. The new cost is 28 National and 92 Local (2892).

Notice that while the new cost is nearly identical, in comparison to the amount of resources you are receiving, it is actually much, much more affordable. In the old model, it would require approximately 16 mission, or 129 villains defeats, or the sale of 47 white items to pay for retconning one power. With the new resource rates, however, it would instead take 6 and a half missions, 45 villains, or the sale of 5 white colored primaries to afford the cost.

Please note that the retcon cost curve has been adjusted, and as such, the actual cost of retcon at any given level might be slightly higher or slightly lower than it was previously.

Ahahahahahahahaha!

if it requires 6.5 missions to respec the last power and it scales up the further you go back, wouldn’t it still be nearly impossible to do a full respec?

That’s only missions, not including any kill cash or items.

So basically it would take 4-5 missions or so if you include that stuff. Depending on if they changed scaling, it would still be nearly impossible it sounds like. The respec prices look more or less the same and are still impossible using money got from the old economy, will have to see how the new economy drops change things later.

Heavily rumored (and somewhat cryptic confirmed) that crafted items were nerfed. I didn’t notice any stat changes though, but i dont have any custom crafted gear.

I did notice they nerfed my superstats and i lost 2% damage bonus from each one due to the new 32% damage cap on superstats. This is a pretty crappy nerf because i need to stack tons of dex due to lightning reflexes or it is terrible.

Yes, it would. Before this patch, the cost to do a full respec on my level 32 was something in the neighborhood of 700 gold. It will be interesting to see where it’s at now. Note, by the way, that this wasn’t an across the board boost to item drops - master villains and super villains have both had their item drop rate reduces, which is rather baffling. Of course, a lot of what they did in this patch is baffling. Nerfing particle mine two ways? Seriously? Nerfing thermal reverbration, in a further attempt to force fire players to take the broken presence stat? Nerfing ego sprites, nerfing condemn further, majorly nerfing intellect and as a consequence seriously nerfing power armor players who used it to combat their sky-high energy costs? A hard cap on superstats? There’s just a lot of stuff in here that seems utterly baffling, and it’s made worse by the fact that the game is still utterly without an articulated master plan for what they want game balance to look like. Do they really want to reduce their powers framework to ‘everything is exactly the same, with different graphics’, or is this just a continuing desperate attempt to buy time by making players weaker with each patch to prolong leveling until they have something approaching a reasonable amount of content?

At this point, the community mood is understandably pretty sour, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that for a lot, if not most folks, the expectation is that any power you have that currently works well is going to be made useless or mediocre, while your broken or useless powers will remain as they are, untouched. This is, needless to say, not the mindset you want in a game you’re trying to enjoy.

oh and while i focus on dex, i don’t have any super dex items like the crafted stuff so even with how stats scale, it seems like it would be very easy to get over the cap at 40 with crafted gear even if you aren’t really trying to stack one stat exclusively.
