quote where I did said lame backstory?
it’s not hard to make lame character overall, I simply said it’s harder to make good characters with restriction in place already, this is the same process I goes through at work, it’s easier just think up cool and random shit, but much harder when there are restriction in place.

Ease really isn’t the issue. That’s as easy or hard as your creativity allows. But saying you’re putting some kind of burden on yourself for min/maxing your powers… I dunno, that’s a bit much. It does take some effort to min/max though, at least until the latest uber build gets posted to a website.

Right, but what’s going to happen to your backstory when they get nerfed and a new FOTM powerset is judged most effective in PVP? Or will you just reroll?

No, I just start another character.
really isn’t that hard.
I think for me creative/fun/practicability should go hand in hand, I don’t want a creative character that’s not fun to play and useless to boot.

You realize that crafting plausible rationalizations for FOTM versions 1 through 5 isn’t usually considered impressive roleplaying, right? Well, maybe the furries dig it…

Heh. I’m just sad he doesn’t like Super Saddam. :(
Then why waste your time coming up with a back story?
They left out “Spikey haired guy from Dragonball Z”. I’ve seen variations on that more than anything else. That or Teleport + Tazer Arrow + Ice or Mini-Mines.

“Hit on the head by a meteor from outer space, Queen Shafty Icezilla was gifted with incredible powers over ice and, uh, bows, but cursed with an insatiable desire to beat up other heroes on national television. Currently, she can be found in the Hero Games, until she gets nerfed, at which point her sister, Shocky McMinimines, will take up her mantle.”

I don’t roleplay at all, I just like to see cool and neat characters, roleplayers are freaky, you should check out that dance club in MC.
It’s not considered impressive anything, really. You read forums and go with all the current most powerful abilities and that’s pretty much it. I’m not sure how that’s fun in a game built around letting people be creative, but everyone pays monthly fees I suppose.

that’s more original imo than super saddam, the name is cheesy though.

I wanted to make it match her build!
Dude, you can’t bag on anyone for being unoriginal when you’re the guy here making only FotM characters. That’s about as brainless as it gets.

See, I had come up with some English bowman who’d been dragged along with knight, son of his lord, to look for an old artifact rumored to be in a treacherous mountain path, they found it, but it was a shrine an ancient god of winter. In attempting to remove parts of it for their return was trapped in an avalanche by its wrath, the bowman being the last alive prayed to the god pledging his service if he could only be saved. The god preserved him, but not freed him. He was recently dug up by excavators, surprised to find him frozen and even more surprised to find him alive when he thawed… but with the power over ice and a servant of this ancient force of winter.
Not very good, but not hard either.

read the previous post, I didn’t bag on anyone other than pointing out that game force you to sacrifice fun/power for creativity due to the fact that most of the skills in the game are useless.

Original doesn’t mean it’s good. You can come up with a lot of original shitty things. Like a super baby that fights crime by flinging his food at enemies. Actually that’s kind of cool, but originality is not the same as quality.

I’m sorry, but that the shit(the good kind), I wish it’s possible to do that in CO.

My character is a 13 year old girl in an alternate dimension where technology has advanced to the level that even young children can buy the instruments needed to create artificial entities in this dimension using a game like interface. These artificial entities can then be controlled through a virtual interface to interact with this dimension almost as if it was a game. Since my character is a 13 year old girl, she gets irrationally angry if her creation isn’t the most powerful being in her “play dimension”, thus she creates a new one when the old one tires her as they are mere artificial dolls to her.
While her real name is Mariko Kurama, the artificial entity she uses to interface with this dimension is only known as “SUX2BU,” a neon pink ninja specialized in fire attacks and single blade.
See, that’s the thing, if your character was actually interesting, you’d be reluctant to let it go.
And besides, not building your characters around the current Flavor of the Month doesn’t mean that you have to entirely ignore the game mechanics and make an unworkable character. I’ve studiously avoided taking such abilities as Shotgun, Mini-Mines, or Tazer Arrow, knowing full I’d be more powerful with them, as they didn’t fit what I had in mind. Yet I still do just fine in PvP (roughly average 8-1 in random pickup games), as I also don’t completely ignore game mechanics, and do avoid powers that don’t do much.
It’s pretty easy to see what the overpowered powers are, and one advantage to avoiding them is that you don’t feel you’re constantly getting nerfed.

oh yeah, Please don’t mix Roleplayer with people with well design characters, because most the RPer in that club have horrible taste in characters.
