Civil Unrest next level or the beginning of the failure of our democracy

Is it paranoia when it’s Trump? The man is a danger to our nation.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2017/08/10/in-a-new-poll-half-of-republicans-say-they-would-support-postponing-the-2020-election-if-trump-proposed-it/?utm_term=.b8ba48a27beb

This isn’t “days away,” imminent or even likely. But it no longer seems impossible. It’s not paranoia to fear where this could go.

The truly crazy “Republicans can never be forgiven and should probably be killed” posts here are mostly one guy, and it should be clear that there’s a sliver of roleplay and humor in that.

I think the vast majority of us miss the days when the debates centered around marginal tax rates and prayer in schools, not whether we should pull out of NATO.

I haven’t seen anything like that on qt3. There’s been threads where people has pointed out similarities between Trump and authoritarian/fascist regimes, but I haven’t seen anyone betting on a coup in the near future (Personally I don’t think it’s very likely.)

I did find someone predicting a coup however. Sure, sounds exactly like CIA guy above.

You aren’t talking about the guy who wants to shit on their graves are you, because I don’t even consider his posts when I talk about this. :)

Granted sarcasm and satire don’t work real well on internet forums so maybe I have read too much into some people posts, but there are numerous posts with people who talk about fearing a Trump canceling of the elections.

Personally I wouldn’t mind him vocalizing that as I think the outrage could lead to his impeachment. Besides, if the Russians aren’t trying to influence our elections why would we have to worry.

I’ve said it a few times. It’s extremely remote as a possibility, but so is nearly every day of the last 2 years.

Trump would do it without blinking. The problem he would have is having anyone carry out his order.

Yeah, I think some people like to use hyperbole here, as everywhere else on the Internet. That’s where context matters. When it’s a back-and-forth with people who are conversing, I usually dismiss it.

Then I think we suck at hyperbole, because I totally missed anything as inspiring as this carefully crafted sentence:

Here we only delight in the deaths of youtube streamers.

LOL - yeah, he’s a loon. To be clear, in a forum? Most likely hyperbole. As a statement to “the public,” that’s when I’m pretty sure someone’s off their rocker.

Edit - that said, Armando isn’t too shabby

Saying Trump wants to shut down the elections is a wild, hard-to-believe idea.

Like, I dunno, “the sitting President will openly grovel before Putin,” or “the President will pay off a porn star to keep quiet about their affair (and not even bother to deny it) and evangelical Christians won’t blink an eye,” or “the US will make a policy out of kidnapping children and then charge their parents to get them back.”

Or the president will invite a dictator who is also KGB to the White House and not tell his staff.

Yeah, that’d be pretty crazy for the GOP, like completely ignoring historical precedent and denying a rightful Supreme Court Justice appointment. I can’t see anything as batshit insane as that actually happening though.

Love you, too, baby

You too, Great Emperor Penblade ;)

Not to be a meanie, but it’s not something to strive for.

Totally the same as calling for the murder of Obama, current and former FBI agents and Democratic voters. No difference there!

And in case you don’t get it, that’s SARCASM.

Seconded.

If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve.

So many snowflakes. :)

Were people being snowflakes or just disagreeing with the bothsides-ism?

You make a legitimate point there. Or not.

Well, I was joking about the snowflakes thing. But there does seem to be the feeling that the forum should be a safe space for those who so wish it. And I would think that is fine in every area except P&R. There is a reason P&R is always set aside from other areas in every forum.
