Loving it so far, just two niggles: incomplete Civilopedia info regarding game mechanics, and no way to surrender/retire. I always play Iron Man, and like to keep all of my scores on the high score list.

PapaSmurf, I’m just not seeing “CivLite” here at all.

LOL the only CivLite thing I’ve noticed so far is that I can’t figure out how to rename my cities.

You’re high, the opening cinematic turned out to be great, despite the shaky “medicine-man-in-a-tent” beginning.

I agree. I really enjoyed it.

Okay, it really pays to get a scout out first thing. Between ruins (the new goody huts), finding city states first (you get a gold bonus), and the perma bonuses for finding natural wonders (Mt. Fuji!), it makes a big difference.

Does anybody know how to make it trap your cursor if you have dual monitors?

There’s a tiny little “Edit” button hanging out just beneath the city name bar on the city screen.

The notification system is slick. New strategic view is great. The rest of the interface removes clutter at the expense of information. Maybe one gets used to this after a few plays, but I’d rather have information at the first level rather than click a few times to get to it.

For instance, the city screen doesn’t display yields automatically – is there an option to correct that?

Citystates so far seem like a babysitting job.

I give the devs credit for creating such a scalable engine, since my laptop (right around the minimum specs) can run it fine. But good lord does it look disgusting on my rig. Not sure if my initial distaste is a result of the game’s ugliness or the over-streamlined feel.

Yes. To know him is to love him, and to love him is to know him. Those that knew him…loved him. Those that didn’t know him…loved him from afar.

Heh – since I worked my way through most of Babylon 5 recently, I immediately thought of this guy:

The awesome subtlety of Leonard Nimoy is far better, though Morgan Shepard is not bad. I also liked how Mass Effect got the guy who did v/o work for Nova among other things to do the background/library stuff. That’s good casting.

Wife just bought me the entire series on DVD, going through the same thing now LOL [/offtopic]

I’m unsure if the game has proper DX10 support…all I’ve heard about is DX9 and DX11.

You have to have Vista or Win7, and make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Of course, you need a DX10 or 11 compatible graphics chip, but I’m sure you know that. :)

It should have installed the DX runtime along with the game, but just in case, here’s the MS link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

Also, if it’s an issue of having an out-of-date DX runtime, a reboot might help. You’re not supposed to need to do that, but rebooting almost never hurts.

Jason, it’s a Steam error. I posted a fix above (basically, if you are getting the DX11 launcher error, your copy of Steam is probably set to run in Vista compatibility mode, which for some reason confuses the launcher).

In the lower right hand corner near the strategic map, there’s a little parchment icon to the left of it. From there you select yield icons and other stuff.

How’s stability for everyone? I just suffered my first CTD shortly after loading a game, though it had been good for an hour or so.

Yeah, I saw that after I posted. Thread move too fast.

Man, that’s a bullshit way to get to my DLC soundtrack. Is there no simpler method? UGH.

Jason Cross,

Unfortunately, that is the way all Special Deluxe Super Editions deliver their extra content on Steam. It is a bit clunky.

p.s. I cannot post links yet, but Troy Goodfellow’s review is now posted over at GameShark.

Link to Troy’s review.

I find it ironic that the “preorder” bonus stuff that is retailer specific ends up being on every copy they sell, at least at first. Because I bought my copy at Walmart, I got the Americas map for free.
