Regarding the upcoming patch:
Happy days! Looking forward to the patch, and (finally) my D2D bonus content!
Would you jerkwads quit bumping the-- Oh, look! That’s within the next week.

$7.50 for two civs and a scenario. Not sure what to think of this. Do we have any information on the Spanish or Incan bonuses?
Sure -
Spain: ability to grab $7.50 from your account without you blinking
Inca: ability to laugh all the way to the bank
PS - quite honestly, it looks like quite a good value (as opposed to some of those map packs).

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned already but the late game tech tree could use some readjusting. Mechanized infantry without researching internal combustion? Nuclear subs without having fission researched first? That does not make sense.

Two civs is a pretty nice bump, but even so $7.50 seems a bit steep. I mean, that’s like 15% of the price of the entire game. It’s not a lot in terms of real money (less than a movie ticket), but you start to get the feeling that by the time you have the “full game,” which is probably going to be about as much content as Civ IV gave you in its original release, you’re going to have paid $150 or something.
Before that, would be good to figure out how a nation could have horse archers without knowing archery, or lancers without knowing horseback riding.

Somehow $3 for a Civ doesn’t sound that bad, and $1.50 for a scenario doesn’t sound that bad. But for $7.50, I really expect some real content.
I do wonder if this “trickle-out-new-civs” model means that we will never see a real expansion for Civ V. It seems like new Civs are one of the bigger draws for buying an expansion pack. If they release a $30 expansion with no new Civs, I’m guessing it will do worse than previous Civ expansions. If they release it with Civs that many people have already paid for as DLC, they risk pissing of their current customers.
This is excellent news. $7.50 is the price point where I pretty much buy without thinking when it comes to my favorite game series. Except when they try to do the map thing to me. I am on to that action.

Hot diggity. Hopefully that patch is good, since I should be getting this for Christmas soonish. Would be nice if it has good or at least decent AI by the time I start playing.

And infantry without rifling. And combustion without oil.
This is my biggest pet peeve with Civ5. The tech tree makes no sense.
Well, let’s be fair - the tech tree mostly makes sense. It’s just the points where it doesn’t that glaringly stand out.

Well sure, but if you look at the modern era, I’m not sure any of it makes sense.
Considering previous Civ games have had basically a 100% correct tech tree, going to a game with a 90% correct one is pretty jarring.
Yay, more free stuff! Now all I need is some free time and I’ll be able to get back into playing a bit of Civ5.

I believe there are some mods that made changes to address that. Though they may cripple the AI more by changing it (not sure). If I had a bit more time I’d find them for you, but I’m swamped. I’m sure I saw them at one point though.

Its entirely possible, but it doesn’t excuse the stupidity of the developers not doing it right the first time.
I get what they were going for, basically a split in the modern era between military and social, but its silly. Plus part of the fun of civilization is that often those things go hand in hand. I mean we wouldn’t have smartphones if not for the Cold War, but in Civ5 you have a universe where the development of dyanamite is purely military (which makes it even sillier imo) and you can develop stealth fighters and nuclear fusion without the aid of computers.
So any news on the abilities of the new Civs? I just checked the Civfanatics forum (my eyes!!!) and didn’t see anything other than hot and heavy bitching.
That would be Civfanatics for you.
No word as of yet, although I still stand behind my prior post on the matter ;)
edit - seeing this is a new page:
Spain: ability to grab $7.50 from your account without you blinking
Inca: ability to laugh all the way to the bank
I’ll buy new civs regardless of their abilities just for the new music and the increased chance of not seeing Catherine and Elizabeth in every damn game.
