I just opened a game that I was playing yesterday (turn 350 or so) and the new stuff is showing up without causing any problems to the save.
Hey! The Magellan achievement just unlocked! Woot!
Does anybody know when the new DLC will unlock? I was under the impression that would sadly be next week.
Next week? It’s the 16th - tomorrow.

Okay, I’ll take back my previous statement. While playing through a save started pre-patch, there’s something goofy going on with the Wonders. I can’t build some and others the game is letting me try and build more than once.
I don’t think these issues will carry over to a new game though, just in these games that straddle the patch. But I’ll find out when I start a new game.
Any news on a mac version of the patch?
The next Mac Civ V patch will be out tomorrow.

AI? There was an AI improvement in this patch? Not that I noticed, at least in an hour or so of playing.
Fought two larger nations at once at King level. The AI is still running units into the clear and is unable to concentrate any force. It did snipe an exposed crossbowman with a horseman, but then it could have done that before, too.
The AI wasted time and units attacking a newly taken city I’m razing. Why is it throwing its units at the burning city when my units are just sitting there watching and laughing at them? Doesn’t the AI understand destruction of forces at all?

What? The City-States are going nuclear now!?!

Real talk: The AI is not improved. I just got done steamrolling Egypt and eviscerating Rome. I am playing on Prince difficulty, which, as I understand it, means the AI plays with it’s best AI and gets no, or few, bonuses. I think I lost one longswordsman, and it was my fault- I didn’t pay attention to the pathing and he ended up walking into greater danger rather than falling back.
So, if you were hoping this was the patch that would lead to AI competence, this is not your day.
I pre ordered Civ V via direct to drive. I believe I get the new DLC for free. Does anybody know if I have to do anything special to get the DLC, or can I just fire up Steam?

Those new wonders sound “interesting”. Whose idea were they?

I’m fairly certain the AI is doing a much better job concentrating its attacks. I lost a bunch of units that I don’t think I would have lost pre-patch. I was really hoping to see some enemy aircraft but as far as I can tell, the AI never got access to Oil or Aluminum (duel-map, industrial age start).
I like some of their tweaks. Naval combat seems to be much deadlier. A Destroyer can take out a Caravel in one shot, whereas before it sadly took many shots. I’m not positive, but I think naval bombardment is a bit deadlier too. Satellites now unveils the map.
[Edit] Also they redid the Tradition Policy tree so it is no longer useless :-)
Also the improved diplomatic system is much better. The increased information shown is good, although I preferred Civ4 displaying actual numeric ratings. And I like the new diplomatic options, such as declarations of friendship.

Crashed twice on me in less than an hour of play. First time, when I tried to play the Mongol scenario, second time shortly afterwards while playing a Standard game. I’m going to try to reboot and see if that helps. I don’t recall a lot of crashes on my machine prior to the patch, so stability may have gone down :-(
[Edit] Crashed a 3rd time. Not happy. I know I updated drivers since I last played. Maybe it’s not happy with the last nVidia drivers?
Just finished a first game with the new patch. No technical problems for me. Can’t say anything about the tactical AI yet. Strategically, the AI now expands over water just as quickly as over land. I like all the gameplay and UI chnages I’ve seen – they are small but definitely improvements.
Still locked for me. Instead I got Barbary Pirates… while playing as Montezuma. Suleiman was also in the game, though, so I guess the AI won the achievement!
Wasn’t that already the case pre-patch?
Also the improved diplomatic system is much better. The increased information shown is good, although I preferred Civ4 displaying actual numeric ratings. And I like the new diplomatic options, such as declarations of friendship.
From the (new) popup description I think that’s just a relabeled Pact of Cooperation. The Pact of Secrecy was entirely replaced with a declaration of, um, hostility or whatever it says – probably because nobody could figure out how those pacts worked!
I noticed that once again, the PDF manual did not get updated. Guess we can just forget about that promise, eh?
That’s good news, thanks. Looking forward to checking it out.

iirc, you’re going to get a code that will allow you to activate the DLC on Steam using the same method as registering a retail copy of something. I’d suggest checking your email or your D2D account sometime today or tomorrow (after the DLC releases, of course).

Not in Civ V.
From the (new) popup description I think that’s just a relabeled Pact of Cooperation.
From the patch notes I thought these were NEW pacts, which have the advantage of giving you more status with the involved party and possible positive status from civs who agree with your stand, but the disadvantage of being public and therefore giving negative status with civs who disagree with your stand. As opposed to cooperation/secrecy, which are only known to the civ you sign them with. I haven’t played enough with the patch to see, though.
Well, I’ve played an entire with the new patch, and the old two pacts never showed up anywhere, so I can only assume they were replaced by these new declarations. I also assumed based on the patch notes that we’d have all four kinds of agreements, but apparently not.
Yes it was. I did a space win last week and satellites revealed the entire map. I remember when the research finished and I suddenly discovered 3 natural wonders and saw the other continent for the first time in the game.
