The combination of Moai statues and early embarking is very powerful, but I like civs getting crazy bonuses to make them more distinctive. Moai statues as a visible “marker” of the Polynesians that also gives a significant bonus are a great idea IMO, and I’d rather see other civs get more powerful bonuses rather than nerfing the Polynesians.
That’s why I just pretend the extra gold represents cargo cults. :)
I agree. I like that in Civ V the civilizations are really distinct with interesting bonusses ensuring a very different playstyle depending on what you pick. I also like how some buildings give extra bonusses if certain tiles are present and others needs certain tiles. More of that, please.
I do miss the extra leaders and more distinct personality and would love for an expansion to give more leaders (and more emphasis on diplomacy which I think is the greatest weakness of Civ V… not that it was ever really good)
I love this aspect of the design. This is the first Civ game in as long as I can remember where I genuinely have to consider the value of putting a given building in a given city. I even use great Generals now to occasionally build fortresses on my front lines, which is something I never felt the need for in past Civ games.
No, you’re right, I was clearly (grossly!) exaggerating. Tom’s not anywhere near as obnoxious an internet troll as you. I wouldn’t even call him a troll at all.
And you know what, maybe you did mea-culpa your self out of the mess you started, but honestly after how you did start I just skip what you have to say unless you’re responding to me directly.
I’m very much with you there, and like what they were going for. Civ 4’s faction differences by contrast were very tame.

Lol, I could ask you to actually re-read the last pages to see how my strong-language post was about a different Civ5 topic in the first place and that I didn’t actually “start” the mess about Civ5’s brokenness, but I think it’s best that you DO skip what nonsense I have to say and I skip your nonsense in return. Win win.

In one corner, Tom Chick. In the other? Hans Lauring!
Honestly, I think you two ‘discussing’ the matter via the forum has created a communication disconnect. I think a one on one podcast where you two could really discuss your thoughts would work it out better and than you two could hug it out.
You’ve both made some great points, but some of those points have been surrounded with jabs that cloud the matter.
In the end you both obviously LOVE the game, but some are more disappointed with it than others. So go discuss it.

You should move your worker on to the last bit of trees on the island and start chopping to make it more accurate.

LOL, but in sad remembrance. It’s amazing to think Easter Island was once a beautiful, lush forested island.
How the hell do you navigate to your units? I press F3 to view the military unit list, but double clicking, shift clicking, you name it doesn’t zoom to them like I’d expect. It appears to select the same worker over and over.
I’m not sure I’m understanding the problem, but I’ll try to help while keeping in mind that it’s entirely conceivable that someone with 28,589 posts on this forum hasn’t played Civ before: With the particular unit selected (by a left-click if you want to do it manually), right-click on an adjacent space and it will move there as long as you have movement points available. Is that what you mean?
I always just use the cycle when I’m trying to get to a specific unit. So I hit ‘w’ until I get to the unit I want.
I’m trying to view specific units out of the 20 I have. W only cycles between active units you haven’t fortified or sleep; the F3 menu doesn’t work at all that I can tell. The upper left corner small menu for the military correctly zooms to units when you click on them, though.
Ah, true, doesn’t work if they’re inactive for whatever reason. Lame bug :(
The interface altogether is a bit of a usability disaster, and I’m annoyed I can’t queue up keypresses like you can in Civ 4. The choppy scrolling is also appalling on a top of the line box.
Otherwise, it’s fun! Pretty much same old same old, but some new innovations I love like embarking.
Choppy scrolling? I don’t have that problem. The only major issue I have with the interface is that you can’t see what your income/output of luxury resources is, which is super fucking lame and so obvious.
Also you can’t bypass the goddamn splash screen launcher.
