Actually, it would be fine if Firaxis stopped completely with work on the AI and focussed on new Civilizations and a proper expansion.
Hans, I would be very surprised if a full expansion wasn’t underway already. I suspect we’ll hear something at E3. Frankly, I’d love for them to do something along the lines of the Colonization game they built with the Civ IV engine. In other words, a total conversion focusing on a specific historical period.

Of course they are. And I agree with you - as broken as Colonization was, I still enjoyed it a lot. I was just failing at trolling.
I am torn between wanting them to fix the AI in Civ V and just having the admit defeat and start working on Civ 6 with 3D octagons and dynamic stacking.
I am impressed that they are still working on Civ V, since that is more of a commitment to the game than I expect most companies to make.
I still haven’t finished a game with newest patch, so me buying an expansion is unlikely without great reviews.

You guys really enjoyed ColCiv or however they abbrieved it?
I was totally underwhelmed after a couple of games and went back to play the original WinCol instead - which still holds up nicely, imo.
The only thing that really sucks is that you cannot abandon colonies.
I’d hope for a more traditional expansion which adds some new concepts, units, civs etc.
Then again, a lot of people seem to be happy with Civ5 as it is, and they’d have to pull off quite a stunt for me to get interested again.
So I guess my wish is they abandon ship and release the DLL and open the graphics systems up for modding instead.

No need to go back to WinCol. The huge fix mod by the community makes the CivIV version of Colonization the most enjoyable and complete one I have seen so far. Actually, it is so good, it even goes to show the limitations of the principle design of Colonization in itself (with its rather shallow military game as well as other shallow areas which, when fixed, might be too close to Victoria 2 for comfort…)

I wanted to so love Civ IV Colonization because I love the time period, but it felt like something was off. Could you please post a link to this mod?

Truncated octahedra? I like the way you think.

What Jorune said.
The things that I disliked most about ColCIV were all the little details that … felt just a tad off. It’s like they re-created Col in Civ but stopped when the finish line of accomplishing that was on the horizon rather than when they crossed it. For example, city management was tolerable, but somehow it was more “fluid” in WinCol. The whole founding fathers implementation was a bit lacking compared to the original, imo. I can’t remember them all, but there were a lot of issues I had with ColCIV - almost all of them were minor, but the sum just made the game feel too rough around the edges. The Dune mod for CIV, for example, felt way more polished.
That said, I got ColCIV pretty cheap (although not super-sale-price cheap) and had some fun with it, so I don’t regret purchasing it or want to say it’s horrible or anything. It’s just - to me - more enojoyable to play the original which delivers 100% of what I liked about Colonization instead of ColCIV which delivers 75%.
But maybe the modding community really fixed it as much as you claim it has - I’ll check out the mod if you name it.

I think the CivCol mod in question is Age of Discovery II. I haven’t tried it but my understanding is that it makes the game feel more like a Civ game and less like a supply wagon simulator.
With all the Civ5 game/DLC on sale today on Steam, I went ahead and picked up the Persia DLC to be ready for when I get back to Civ5. Fortunately, with the break I’m taking for other games, the patches will likely make it in by my next play and freshen up the gameplay somewhat.

I’ve been waiting for a sale on the DLC too, going to pick up the extra civs for later play.
Yeah, that was it. Greatly improved upon the flawed base game.

I can’t believe I picked up the DLC I didn’t have when I haven’t played this game in months as I wait {Tom Chick filter on} for improved AI {Tom Chick filter off} before starting a new game.

There’s a Persia DLC? What does it add?

But these already were in the game before, weren’t they? The guys with the Immortals and Darius as leader?

Maybe you guys are thinking of the Babylonian DLC?
Perhaps he was. I was just answering snarkily because the DLC so far has been underwhelming. Not bad, but I hope they’re working on something a bit more wideranking than just adding the occasional new Civ and a few scenarios (I played the one with the Spain/Inca one, but otherwise don’t care at all for Scenarios in any of my Civ games).
Here’s the DLC info, rezaf.
