Been trying to win on deity for a while, huge map with 12 civs, me and buddy playing…

Use raging barbs to even things a bit out…and cheese with selling and then having barbs destroy my resource fields…

Even with this, I find the leap from Deity from Immortal to be mind boggeling…
This game needs a difficulty in between…

The TF2 playstats got reset at some point for some reason.

That’s the current version. If Steam is set to automatic updates (the default) it will download and install any new patch in the background.

Steam itself does not provide versions or updates, they merely hand on what they get from the developer. You can find the current version number and patch notes on the 2K forum:

Thanks, I thought I looked there for the version number, but my old fart eyes must have missed it.

History graphs!

There’s an AI tweak mod in development. Has anyone tried it?

They’re still working on graphs and don’t even have replay? What an absolute failure of a civ game.

I think Civ 5 works splendidly now, been fighting hard on deity, its a challenge on any level.
History graphs where interesting, but not important.

It’s definitely a much better game now in Single Player, but the dreadful state that multiplayer is languishing in means this will probably be the last Firaxis purchase I make. Civ5 is one of the very few games I wish I could have my money back from.

I will give them credit, though, if you’re a single player only person, Firaxis has put a lot of support into the title since it’s original release. Part of that was because a lot of support was needed, but that wouldn’t have stopped many other companies from just walking away.

Me and a friend have played a ton of mp games, only problem is we don’t play pvp style as wars is a spamfest, we just play to see who has highest score.

Done a few huge maps, but game slows down too much, so we stick at deity/large maps without citystates, and things are tricky on so many levels.

Whiny overentitled kids these days! The title of the window actually says “Replay” and “Graphs” is just one option in a drop-down menu, so maybe we’ll get replays too.

Ooh boy! If they could just add some fun in, then maybe I’ll have a reason to stop playing Civ I, and start playing Civ V.

Kids these days. Read his post again, he addressed your “concern” as best as we will be able to at this point.

Say no more! If you’re still playing Civ I over even Civ IV, then your words carry no weight. Begone, troll!

Palace. Civil Wars. Random civs over the world map. Playable in an evening. Simpler than the sequels. Runs great on a flimsy netbook with dosbox.

Plus - you can get experiences in Civ I that you just can’t get in the others - like the time the Zulus blitzkrieged out of their homeland, took Moscow and caused a civil war, just in time to save my Azteks based out of Australia from Russian annhilation.

Civ IV may be the pinnacle of the series - but I, II, SMAC, and III still have their eccentric charms and are worth playing (on occasion).

I haven’t played a complete game yet. I didn’t like Civ IV. I think I had the most fun with Civ II.

I have played all of them I think, happy to hear that people still appreciate some of the old magic, personally I can’t go back from Civ 5 now, but the nostalgia will always be there I guess.

I found Civ 2 and 3 to be stale and lacking polish, civ 4 was polished to a shine, but lost focus when I added too many expansion packs… Civ 5 is perfect but they are never going to make multiplayer work unless they turn this to realtime.

Not to mention fortified phalanx beating armor ;) Oh, and diplomats are actually useful! Sometimes I feel the effort that goes into trying to balance the latter series’ against player exploitation gets in the way of entertaining gameplay, but I guess there’s mutiplayer to consider in these modern times.

I was just ribbin’ ya. :-)

Preliminary June/July patch notes so everyone can start bitching how it’s still not enough and Civ1 was way better.

Notable additions include hotseat, game replays & history graphs, and an AI that allegedly knows how to stage naval invasions. Lots of balancing changes as well, research pacts now give a research bonus rather than a free tech, and these diplomacy improvements:

  • Made backstab routine more transparent (the dialog will clearly state that they are backstabbing you).
  • AI now remembers when it has been nuked, for a permanent diplomatic penalty.
  • AI now recognizes a player that captured their capital for a permanent diplomatic penalty.
  • End declaration of friendship as soon as war is declared (so can’t later get a notification that it has expired).
  • AI remembers if you satisfied one of their requests (positive modifier, decays over time, based on value of items granted).
  • AI remembers if you fought against a common foe (positive modifier, decays over time, based on damage done to the common foe).
  • Track trades between players and allow that to positively influence relationships (the better the deal for the AI, the stronger the modifier). Particularly useful for bribing a hostile AI.
