I seriously doubt that.

Likewise. It just makes sense to consolidate a product as it gets to this point in a DLC world. I mean, aside from Telefrog, how many people will be tempted to plunk down $50 on DLC for a 4X game when they’re seeing the base game going for $12.50? Creating a GOTY which can then go on its own sale is just a better way to bundle as it creats a higher proft margin on more consumers’ entry points. What’s more, I think it actuall paves the way for an expansion - when it comes out and (hopefully) generates some buzz, people may be drawn to the base game who had been holding out in their bunker with their copies of Civ IV. Buying the GOTY along with the expansion would be a “sensible” way to go for such people (again, if the expansion is enticing enough).

But then again, this is all speculation. The only people who post here that might know the truth of the matter are likely unable to talk about it whether out of courtesy or obligation.

I suspect that getting it back out on retail shelves (and digital storefront carousels) for the holidays just maybe is the dominant reason for the GOTY edition.

Agreed. They still have the requisite Gold, Platininum, and Ultimate editions they can release.

It’s not like GOTY=the end of all things.

Civ4 had a GOTY edition after warlords release, as well as a gold edition. The same year as the release of the base game.

SOOOOOOOO.

Don’t forget about Diamond, Titanium, and Complete. Along with Arsenal of Democracy, Hour of Darkness, Heart of Democracy, and Arsenal of Darkness. Oh, and Iron Cross.

Civilization V: With a Vengeance
Civilization V: Electric Boogaloo

Don’t forget the two, yes two, distinct “Complete” editions.

I can’t seem to figure out what’s going on in one of my games. This thread has 191 pages, and using the search function isn’t turning up the answers I need, nor does google. Here’s the deal:

There are two A.I. nations at war with eachother in my game, Siam and Arabia. I sit near the middle of these two nations. Siam has a recently acquired (formerly Arabian) puppet city launching boulders and bombarding Arabian units. These bombardments are traveling 8-9 spaces across the map, and the only range unit I see anywhere near the attacking city is a crossbowman.

Is there a tech I’m completely unaware of, or is this a bug, a graphical anomaly, a known issue? Kinda weird, makes me not want to attack Siam since pretty much every tile I own right now is withing range of those attacks.

Here’s a pic of it happening just after I posted:

Must be a bug.

Assuming you’re not playing with any mods, something is screwed up. I would check you files through Steam. I’ve never seen it before in all my hours with the game, so I don’t think it’s a reoccurring bug (but who knows?).

Yea, no mods. I’ll give a file scan a shot and see what pops up.

Although I’ve never seen exactly what you’re describing, I’ve seen something similar. Sometimes an AI unit moves but there is a delay before the movement shows on the screen. If another AI unit shoots at it during the delay, the shot will go to where the unit appears on the screen (rather than where it “really is”) and so the shot appears to go too far. But it’s usually a very temporary thing, and the AI unit graphic gets moved into its “correct” position within a couple of seconds. It sounds like you’re seeing something different.

I’ve seen something similar too – a graphics bug, not a gameplay bug. In the cases I’ve seen, the units are “really” in the right place to do whatever it is they are supposed to, but they’re just rendered badly.

Is it the city of Kufah itself firing on the arabian units?

No, I was also watching for that when this was occurring. Plus, as far as I know only one city can fire at a time.

This could be the cause. I’m not sure because I’d have to watch and see where units move in the future after being bombarded, but it’s worth looking in to.

So far every game pretty much turns into this:

Sounds like you might be a Warmongering Menace to the World. ;-)

Well, I am playing America at the moment.

Well… most of them seem to work perfectly fine. You were just a very bad neighbour it seems… :P
