I am enjoying getting the weirder achievements from the scenarios. In the Fall of Rome scenarios there are some funky ones. So far I have gotten the Double KO (capture both Rome and Constantinople in same game, used Vandals); the capture Rome via water using Vandals - forgot the name; and the I Missed That Day In History Class (capture any Sassanid city using the Celts)
Fun (and weird) stuff.

Cool, thanks for the overview, that sounds really nice. I also didn’t realize that Harbors now added +hammer to sea resources (that was probably patched in ages ago, but I didn’t play vanilla Civ5 much).
Oh? I thought Seaports were what added hammers; I’ll have to look up the info on Harbors again.

It changed somewhere along the line, Alan, because it was a surprise to me too. Harbors used to provide no hammer boost but Seaports provided +2. Now harbors are +1 hammer and Seaports are +1 hammer +1 gold, per sea resource.

Did you get the “Pump Don’t Work” achievement? You have to steal all the handles in a single game.
The Seaport / Harbor changes were in a patch last summer that added a lot of balancing tweaks (including the stuff that made Liberty so over the top as an opener).
Seaports now also give +1 gold per resource worked in addition to the hammer, so they basically will almost always “pay for themselves” even before you run the gold through the market/bank/stock exchange multipliers.
Hey guys,
I’ve uploaded a video of me playing the game on my ipad using splashtop to remote into my PC. It works brilliantly. Very responsive and almost all the controls are available to you with gestures etc.
At the end of the video I show how to solve a problem if you get a black screen after running the game.

That is pretty nifty :-)
Clearly your computer is much faster than mine. On my computer we would have spent the entire 5 minute video waiting for the “Online Interactions are not rated by the ESRB. Click Continue.” screen to appear!
I can get much the same responsiveness out of my 4G phone and a 2.00 Remote Desktop app I picked up. Not much in the way of gestures, but then again, I’m using a phone.
I saw a particularly bizarre case of broken AI today.
A large number of Mongol units are flooding towards my allied city state they are at war with, along with me. They’ve already killed a couple of city state units. The city state currently has one unit left, an archer in the city. Three Mongol units have just moved into contact with the city hex, and maybe six more are impotently thrashing back and forth in the hilly terrain nearby. Next turn they should start attacking the city, right? They have a mix of archers and axemen. They have no other enemies close by. My closest units are far away, on the far side of the city state, so the Mongols have nothing to worry about.
Turn 1.
City state: Archer moves out of city hex adjacent to two Mongol axemen.
Mongols: Do nothing except move a couple of units.
Turn 2.
City state: Archer moves into city hex.
Mongols: Do nothing except move a couple of units.
Turn 3.
City state: Archer moves out of city hex adjacent to two Mongol axemen.
Mongols: Do nothing except move a couple of units.
Turn 4.
Mongols negotiate peace with me, offering lots of money.
Seriously, what the hell? What possible rules can the AI be following to make these moves? I speculate that whole group of units just sort of happened to be near the target city state and were really designated to have some kind of goal to do something else like path to one of my cities; but in that case, the goal was stupid, and it wasn’t pursued in any event, since the Mongol units just fibrillated around the city-state hex and didn’t approach my territory. Meanwhile, what could possibly possess the city state to move its one unit out of the city to get killed? Except of course, it didn’t get killed… And then, apparently the Mongols decided to pay me off for peace, despite not having lost a single unit and having three times as many units as me anyway.
Don’t download the Nvidia 304.48 beta drivers. They’ve broken Civ 5 DX10/11 version for many people, myself included.

Behold, the improved G&K AI! Before you spent the $30, the AI would have done it all in single file.
Downloaded splashtop to try it myself… works pretty well! Civ V from the couch!
Or even better, Civ V from the bus, train or anywhere you have 3G/Wifi!
It really works brilliantly. I’m going to go back through my games catalogue to find other suitable titles. It’ll most likely be TBS stuff, Galactic Civ 2 etc.
I was playing Civ 5 from the beach. It’s the ultimate statement of gamer addiction.
I was wearing my swimsuit, and sitting in the shade, too. I’m probably doing something wrong.
Or something very, very right! :)
For those that don’t mind buying keys, the expansion is now $11.50 at gamerkeys.net. Not sure if it’s on sale or a permanent price though.
And for the record, I originally bought it for $19.99 and got the steam key within 24hrs. Kind of annoyed by the quick price drop. :/

Is Gamerkeys a legit site? Their faq mentions using VPN to authenticate keys. Seems kinda sketchy.
Really don’t want to get my Steam account banned or something.
VPN is only needed for RU steam keys, which the site will clearly state whether or not it’s a RU key.
Gods & Kings is region free, so all keys should work the same.

But it’s legit? They aren’t like buying keys with stolen credit cards and reselling them to turn them into cash or something? I’m not going to get my account banned in 3 months?
