As far as I know they’re legit. I bought a RU Battlefield 3 key over 6 months ago when it first came out and had no problems. Also, check their twitter and facebook. They have a lot of feedback that indicates they’re not doing anything suspicious.

Wow that’s pretty sweet, thanks for posting that. I’ve never once had the urge to buy an iPad until now.

Gamerkeys is very sketchy, IMO. They specifically work by buying gamer keys from other regions where currency & market differences require different price models.

They are kind of the definition of grey market. Not strictly speaking legal as that’s a violation of a number of international trade laws as I understand it… but I am most definitely NOT a lawyer. But they are definitely NOT 100% above board.

Well yeah, that’s how all the sites work that sell keys. They buy them in bulk at overseas prices and then resell them at a slightly higher price, which usually is quite a bit lower than American prices. There’s nothing sketchy about that unless they’re buying the keys via illegal means (stolen credit cards), which I’m pretty sure the site I mentioned isn’t doing.

As for buying keys in general, it’s definitely grey market and morally questionable. I wouldn’t recommend buying them unless a) you’re okay with doing so, b) you’re willing to take a (albeit low) risk of something “bad” happening (banned key, banned account, etc…).

EDIT: I forgot to mention that they specifically send you a picture of the key that comes in the retail box of Gods & Kings. Here’s the one they sent me (edited of course): http://i.imgur.com/23Qu3.jpg

Just finished up a Diplomatic victory for Carthage on Emperor difficulty, small archipelago map. Spent most of the game with next to nothing for military. At one point, Montezuma charged me with his great war era soldiers and cavalry, and I just bought 2 nuclear subs and a battleship and freaked him out.

Just as I turned in the winning conditions, Pandora started playing Dido.

Hotfix/patch rolled out. A few crash issues fixed, and this should resolve issues for those playing in offline mode (apparently there was something in the auto-update aspect of the new modding system which caused the game to crash if you went to the mod menu with Steam in offline mode).

That’s very cool kismet there.

I’m trying to remember–does Civ5 warn you if an AI starts building the UN (i.e. beware of incoming Diplo Victory)?

I don’t recall ever seeing any warning about opponents building Wonders in Civ V. The nearest analog I can think of in Civ V is that when spaceships parts are built and installed by the AI, there is a notice about those.

Nope. If you want to know that a civ is starting to build wonders, you need to have a spy operating against them, and then they have a good shot of finding out and letting you know. :)

Thanks for the tips above. I’m slowly working my way through a fresh vanilla game while I wait for a sale on Gods and Kings. The Persia AI has bought up almost all the city-states, so I do not want to get blindsided while I take my time researching and testing the game mechanics of the more advanced units. I can at least keep track of when they enter the right research era for the UN (modern or whatever), so that helps.

  • I just tried playing Civ V (G&K) again since it finally had the elements I wanted with G&K, and I rmemebered what I jated so much about the game… the terribble UI. IUt’s clean and concise but when you’re lookinf for data lists, stats, or “trends”, graphics, ANYTHING we had in CIV IV - they’re still not in there? Is that right?

  • Also, I don’t fully understand luxery trading. I had 5 citrus and wanted to trade just 1 so I could keep 4 for myself. There is no option to only trade 4, and apparently I traded them all which sent my peons into an unhappy tailspin. Why isn’t there a way to tell (in one screen) what you can vs. can not trade without gimping yourself?

  • Appreciate the game, but reall despise those that took away all the data we’d come to love from previous CIv games. Thought G&K was to build on this and give us more?

It tells you right on the trade screen how many of each resource you have.

  • Yes, but when it says I have 3 citrus, why am I forced to trade all or none of them? If I have 3 it seems like I’d be trading my excess, not ALL of it.

  • Also, with strategic resources (like horses) - how do you know how many you need to keep in reserve so your horses performance isn’t stunted?

  • Where is the old Mod Buddy? I had a lot of mods sorted though htat last year, and the Steam app thing is terrible! Not even a way to aphabetize?! Seems lik ebefpore you clikced the “get mods” button and it toook you to a Take2/Firaxis fileserver.

What do you mean, trade all or none of a resource? Just trade down to (1) if you are worried about it. The reason they allow you to trade your last copy of a resource is in case you would want to trade it to someone to get a resource several of your cities might be requesting.

I’m also not sure what you mean about strategic resources. Spend what you want - if you have 4 horses, use all 4 if you want. You would only go negative if

a) You lose a tile that contains the resource. Protect your strategic resource tiles.

or

b) You are getting a resource from trade. I believe you can hover over your Horses or whatever to find out how many are coming from trade, though. Not?

I personally am very pleased in both CiV and Skyrim for how the mod manager through Steam Workshop works and feels. Just my opinion. And I really think the UI in CiV is exceptional.

It doesn’t trade all of them, it trades one of them.

Just to clarify this concept: the trade menu will bring up luxury resources that your prospective trading partner doesn’t have and is therefore interested in (spares are only good for trading, after all). Once you add one of a type of resource to a trade offer, the game takes into account that no additional numbers of that type will be wanted by your trading partner and therefore takes it out of the window. However, your spare luxury resources will still be there to trad with someone else after the trade is completed.

For a change of pace, I tried a OCC for the first time last night, playing as Egypt at King level. My starting position was okay but not great, and after just a few turns I met my very near neighbor, Napoleon. Very shortly thereafter I met my other near neighbor, Alexander. Oof.

I fended off about 5 DoWs before I resigned in the face of over a dozen angry French units. Without any iron, I could not mount a decent enough defense. I’m sure I made some mistakes, as it was my first OCC attempt, but I’m not sure that was a winnable start unless you were a serious micro-managing expert player.

The AI sometimes wants ALL of your luxury resources. This is not a “trade,” it’s a “demand.” Generally though, it defaults to trading luxuries 1-for-1, so I’m not sure why it says you’re trading all of them.

For strategic resources, there are counters at the top of your screen that show you how many extra you still have available for use.

Holy crap, I had no idea you could do this. I just felt the urge to buy a iPad now.
