Two new videos from Pax East 2013 that goes into trade and tourism, including the reveal of a 3rd new civ (Brazil): http://kotaku.com/5992103/civilization-vs-next-expansionbrave-new-worldreleases-in-north-america-on-july-9th
I really like how the musicians, writers, and painters all have a wonder-like popup when you use them to create a great work. So, for instance using Beethoven to create a great work would popup an image and musical excerpt from his 9th Symphony.

Nephrinn, I agree, the musicians, writers and painters are really interesting now. What’s more, where you put your Great Works matters. In one video, Poland made four Polish renaissance works of art – Whistler’s Mother, Grieg’s Hall of the Mountain King, and a couple others. (Yes, Whistler is Polish in this incarnation.) If Poland puts those in its own Museums in Krakow and Warsaw, it gets a nice “theming” bonus for having Polish art from similar eras in the same museums.
But if Poland instead chooses to put them in the Louvre (a great Wonder built by Poland), it gets no bonus, as the Louvre is designed to hold works of art from around the world and different civs. I think that is SO cool. Just like the real Louvre. This feature alone has me eager to play this expansion.
I will get this just for Shaka Zulu.

Poland-Lithuania was arguably the most advanced culture in Europe for a few shining moments before all their neighbors started attacking them serially and simultaneously over many years. This is why you still need to build up an army even if you’re going for the culture victory…

Not sure I fully understand how ideologies work. Aside from the diplomatic implications, are there any benefit in choosing one over the other?

I think there are bonuses tied to ideology, similar to how religion has bonuses in G&K. I believe they discussed how it works when the expansion was first announced.

Well, this may not be of much concern to most people but it is huge news to me. This was a post made by drcane on the Civ5 forums:
Still no word on if Mods will be working in MP now but if they’re putting actual resources into it now, it leaves me hopeful.
Wow, that’s super awesome of Firaxis! Holy crap. Hybrid mode is a great idea, also, I wonder how that works in practice.
Here is video of the announcement. I totally missed this hour long stream of the game, and will be watching it here in a bit!
The Hybrid mode is the exact solution I thought of for Civ IV’s Pitboss mode, but never shared. The problem with Pitboss (and Internet mode in Civ V) is all turns are taken simultaneously. That’s great, until war is declared. Then the player who can click the quickest, has the faster PC, and/or has animations turned off has the advantage. He can move his units out of harm’s way before they’re attacked, or he can attack before his opponent can do likewise. This is all excellent news!
I love that I can keep coming back to Civ5 (like Civ4 before it) and it is never old. Played another 8+ hour game, finished today, and won. I don’t win often, so I’m feeling rather upbeat about it all. And with BNW coming along, looks like it’ll get a nice little refresh for some different gameplay once again.
Adam Sessler does a gameplay walkthrough of Brave New World with Ed Beach. Can’t wait for this!
A new Hands-On gameplay preview has just been published by Rev3Games: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m6LHvaiTIc
Of particular interest to me was the Ideology stuff:

Notice EACH Ideology has it’s own unique set of Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 tenets. :O

They’re really doing a lot to focus on making the later stages of the game more interesting. I think that’s an excellent area to focus on, given that it’s been the weakest stage of not only the Civ franchise but the whole genre in general.
What are the must play mods for the base game? I was hoping to play the mod of ice and fire, but unfortunately it requires gods and kings.

The new expansion (Brave New World) will let the player distribute food using trade routes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=J7hEiMiOzos
I have wanted something like this forever.
I say this as a huge fan of CiV (especially post Gods and Kings) so take my opinion with a grain of sault, but to me this expansion looks amazing. I honestly wonder what could be improved upon with a CiVI at this point, honestly, over CiV plus G&K/BNW. I know a lot of folks have a problem with the AI, but I find it to be quite well done and challenging (it helps I’m not as amazing at this genre as I probably should be, given how much I love TBS games and how many hours I put into them). AI improvements are planned yet more for the BNW expansion, which is a given considering the complexity of the systems.
The AI being broken with all the new Civs and systems they are putting in is my only real concern at this point for BNW.
Agreed on all counts. It’s looking fantastic. I also like that the (imho) formerly nerfed great artists are getting some serious love with this expansion.
