I didn’t even think of Wikipedia. Thanks, that just saved me $20.

Finished (well, lost) my 1st BNW game a few minutes ago (King).
Playing as Morocco, love their trade bonus but I couldn’t figure out how to increase my trade route limit. I was most of the way through the Classical Era and well on my way to a pretty sweet Petra setup – and then the freakin’ Assyrians roll up to my doorstep with 3 Siege Towers and 3 Warriors. My handful of Archers and Chariot Archers barely even got off a shot before those towers just obliterated my cities.
Looking forward to surviving long enough to see the mid and late game changes next time. :) I like the changes to the core game I’ve seen so far; the rebalance & reassignment of the tech & culture trees, as well as the cool trade model.

So far I’m impressed with this expansion. My first take on this is it looks like Firaxis opened up a lot of interesting new strategies without the game feeling like it is getting bogged down by too many mechanics (something I was kind of worried about). AI diplomacy is as weird as ever, but I am reserving judgment on its performance in other areas, so far I haven’t noticed anything obviously dumb.
Well this sucks not only did GMG send out the keys 5 hours late but now I can’t get Steam to activate the key. It fills up the activation bar 2/3 of the way and then says Steam servers unavailable. I have tried restarting both Steam several times and doing a full system restart. :(
My GMG account says that the game is still unavailable…
Mine too, and Steam says it’s not due to be released for over two days yet.
According to one review I’ve watched, you also don’t receive G&K’s scenarios.
They know myself and Peter Frazier are from Australia, and the game is not released there yet. GMG says July 12 for me, same as Steam does. Darn region locking.

I got my email at around 4AM with my key, even though my account still says no keys available. Just downloaded it 100%. I’m in the US. I haven’t touched CiV V since 10/28/2012 but am itching to try the expansion out now.
Weird issue for me: I still get the Gods & Kings menu music, despite the game loading with the Brave New World menu (my son, who has his own copy running on a PC five feet away, is getting the new music).
edit - and yes, all DLC’s are checked (I even tried disabling G&K - same result).
I can’t wait for work to be over so I can get home and start a new Civ game. It’s been too long!
10/28 is my birthday. So there.
I got my GMG email at 4 AM EST as well. I coincidentally woke up early so I got to play a bit this morning.
I decided I’d try the Shoshone and queued up 2 additional scouts so I could grab all the goodie huts and best settler sites. I was going to use the pathfinders to keep an eye on undefended enemy settlers (I play on Prince, and they will send them undefended very often.)
Unfortunately the RNG put me on a smallish island alone, with some city states to hog up more land. Boo! I tried to adapt and go for a cultural victory. There’s a lot to learn, didn’t figure out how to get more delegates or pass resolutions properly.
A coastal capital seems very powerful now because the trading sites would be much more profitable on a large city.
Does the AI send military escorts with its settlers on the higher difficulty levels?
-Tom, who doesn't always protect his settlers with military units, but sometimes protects them with a reloaded save
I don’t know, I don’t play with higher difficulties. They do seem to take into account whether your units are close or not thought. With Gods and Kings I did an experiment save scumming. I had 3 units near the enemy capital that had just built a settler. We were at peace. If I moved units a certain way he would end up building the city away from the units - so there is some logic in there to avoid capture and just settle where you can.
I read a thread on civfanatics complaining that barbs don’t capture AI settlers anymore thought! Need to confirm, barb camps are a nice source of free workers normally. I can’t find it now and the site is pretty slow.
You can only trade gold for turn unless you have a friendship treaty - this removes a lot of abuse (take all the AI’s gold, declare war, buy early settlers, etc).
I can confirm that’s not true. I saw an English settler being held by barbarians last night.
More so than any other game I have on Steam (that I’ve played!), Civ V is very susceptible to file corruption. Always have Steam verify the integrity of the game’s cache, if you’re experiencing issues with the game.

Last night I saw this behavior in AI on normal difficulty. Whether or not that is a regular thing is premature for me to say.
