This game is a real gift to all the dovish players. There are so many options available now for non violent conflict resolution with neighboring powers.

That right there sold me. I NEVER play for a conquest victory.

Wow, Lake Victoria is 6 food. So for Spain it’s 500 gold and 12 food if it happens to show within a few turns of Madrid? Ha.

Just fiddled around with the new expansion a bit, doing some early game stuff on Prince difficulty. The Barbs are more intelligent now it seems, actually attacking cities and spawning more interesting units (axe throwers and horse guys) early on.

You could always just grab a worker from a city-state and then immediately ask for peace. Doing that more than once or twice per game will probably result in a reputation hit, but otherwise it’s a nice source of free workers.

Yeah, that was a shock. I was farming some experience with an archer safely out of range when suddenly the barb camp spawned a horseman. I had to retreat back towards my city to keep that archer alive.

I am guessing that I am the only player alive who loves that you have to secure your trade routes against barbarian raiders.

You’re not alone in that, no.

Any impressions on archaeology yet? That sounded like a really neat feature.

You go hunting for dig sites that appear all over the map. They are very important for culture wins, as culture wins demand you mix and match artifacts from different cultures and eras to get bonuses to tourism. Maxing out the Explotation tree also reveals some secret sites. It’s basically a way to make culture wins more proactive. I think you can get artifacts by capturing cities tha house them, too.

I only wish that archaeologists could fight other archaeologists. Oh, and you need open borders to harvest in other people’s lands- it would be cool if you could do it without open orders and risk diplomatic consequences, like preaching.

I couldn’t get the integrity check to work (stuck at 0% verifying). So I foolishly just deleted Civ V and though I’d do a fresh install. Now I can’t even Civ V to reinstall (got an error messages saying game is unavailable for offline play),much less Brave New World. 12 hours and counting for Steam Support to get back to me. Not a happy camper

Have you restarted the Steam application itself? Doing that and/or changing my download location often fixes those kind of issues for me.

So I ran the game very briefly last night but didn’t do anything past the menu. I’m firing it up now and it’s going through the whole “Installing DirectX 9” stuff games sometimes do on first run (despite this not being my first run). The thing that gets me, though? It’s installing DirectX 9, Steps 1-33. I’m watching it go through and installing 33 different releases of the DirectX 9 runtime. What the hell…

Well I restarted Steam dozens of times, rebooted the computer three times, and deleted all the cache stuff I could find. But I never even knew that I could change download locations. Changed locations from LA to Sacramento and it worked fine. (Why the hell isn’t that a hint on Steam support.) Many many thanks for the suggestion, happily downloading now.

My Privateer took a city! Has that always been a thing? Because that’s huge!

Still no key from Greenman gaming, the wife is about to kill me.

Yeah, since Gods & Kings there were melee ships that can capture cities.

Hey, this is pretty sweet. Really like the trade routes. Trying to wrap my head around the tourism stuff. Lots of little changes that make the game more interesting. Nice expansion.

Grabbed the expansion but am going to wait until my current game is finished. Which means I most likely won’t be playing until August because this game is going to drag on for a long while.

Awesome, I’m so glad that worked for you. I’m guessing sometimes one of their datacenters gets screwed up or something, but thankfully it’s not something that happens very often!

Anyone played enough to have any opinions on the AI at war yet? I am buying the expansion, but just curious.
