Demo is up. Might need to restart Steam or use this link: steam://install/65900.

It’s about 4 gig.

Oh my god, I’m dling stuff at 1.3 MB/s

Never, ever, on anything ever before even reached 700 kbps.

Alright, patch downloaded. See you guys on the other side of the space race!

goddamn why wont the bastard game just unlock for us poor euro’s already :(

WTH, 4 gb demo. Well at the 550 kb/s at the moment it shouldn’t take “that” long…

Maybe I’ll be able to still preorder the game tomorrow.

Nice, you can donate to charity! And not with your money!

Humm I guess I am not only in wanting to play this game. Bad… 22% unlocking…

It is still your money, really. You gave it to them immediately before they asked where it should go.

I was gifted a copy by a US owner, and my steam is US, but I am currently in Japan so it seems like I will have to wait… :(

Why couldn’t I have downloaded this 1gig patch last night?

Oh my god, this game is fucking gorgeous.

A few questions after playing briefly:

  1. Marble. The game tells me it’s for construction and artwork and is listed as a luxury, so what exactly does it do? Is it like Civ4 in that it helps you build wonders and things faster?
  2. I saw the AI “protect” a city state very early on, but I see no way to do this myself. Is this option only available for the AI?

Marble does help wonder construction. Haven’t played it yet (I’m in EU) so I can’t answer your 2nd Q.

Is there a way to place a Civ 5 icon in my Quick Task Bar? I do not see the game listed anywhere in my Start menu to create one from and I am not sure where Steam places the game files.

Right now I can only load the game from Steam itself (I am not an expert on setting up Steam so any help appreciated).

Thanks!

Hello all,

The integrated Steam cloud support is very slick. I like the idea of keep my save games on the Steam servers.

Anyone else not able to select dx10/11 on startup? Its there but won’t let me mouse over it.

Right click on the game name in the Steam library screen and choose “Create shortcut on desktop” Then drag or copy the created icon to your quick task bar.

Put Steam on your Quick Task bar, and then simply right click it and select Civ5.

@Talorc & McKnight (and anyone else who answers in the interim)

Thanks!
