I had fun with my first game, playing as Russia on prince and a small map. I ended up going for a religious victory. I am a bit worried that zero civs attacked me the whole game (sounds like that’s uncharacteristic though).
Is there any way to view the wiki online? Google didn’t help. There’s some weirdness to the interface, for instance why does it take 3 long clicks to go from the “tech finished” popup to the technology tree?
Also some weirdness graphically. The map graphics don’t look very impressive at 4k relative to other strategy titles, although I have no problems with the art. I think the textures must not be very high res. The leader models look good in 4k but why does my fps go from constant smooth 60 to 40 as soon as I get a diplomatic message?

How do culture victories work? I have been trying to get one, but when I check my standing on it, I am very far away. It seems that Ill need like 2000 tourists a turn to win that way. I do not see how you can accidently get such a victory unless there is some mechanic I do not understand. Is the tourist thing something that builds up, like a currency or do you just need to hit X tourists per turn to win?
I am also very disappointed by the AI. I am playing on prince difficulty, trying to be peaceful, yet my armies could wipe everyone out, I am sure I can win the science victory if I push for it. My neighbor, who has been a PITA the entire game, is still using catapults and swordsmen while I have the modern army and am researching nukes.
To make matters worse, this nation (greece) has been in conflict with brazil for 100s of turns and brazil has a superior army, yet has not captured a single city.

Pillaging is based off what you pillage. I can restore health, give gold, give science, give faith. I haven’t remotely figured out what it does and sadly hovering doesn’t help.
Won my first game with a cultural victory. I wasn’t getting anywhere with it, so I took out China who kept making all the Wonders and then instantly won because evidently they were the only thing holding me back.
The UI needs some more. Right clicking only seems to work in the build que and basically nowhere else. Tiles are hard to read. Pillaged tiles… are a fucking nightmare. I had a Jade Mine that sat around pillaged for nearly the entire game because I couldn’t tell it was pillaged. Same goes for improved resources. The only real distinction between a gathered one and an ungathered one is graphical. So if you don’t have what a Sugar Plantation looks like memorized, you’ll have to run a builder over to see if it’s built. That process gets old when there are 500 things to check. For that matter revealing new resources is a pain too. We unlocked coal. Okay spend 5 minutes panning the map, there is no way to search of exclude icons, just stare at them like Magic Picture till you spot them.
Overall, it was pretty fun, but I’m not sure it was worth my money. King was too easy. Emperor sounds silly, but I suppose I can try it. AI needs to upgrade it’s damned troops. Early game where everything is fairly tight, it’s a challenge. Once you hit gunpowder and pull away a little, it seems to be a steam roll. They don’t handle artillery and field guns very well, much less Corps and Armies.

This sounds dangerously similar to Civ 5, ineffective wars, and yes, Prince is peanuts, I sometimes wonder how you can loose on that difficulty, unless you are just messing around.
Heh. I lose on Prince all the time. Get sidetracked, don’t upgrade or build enough troops, and lose a city to a surprise attack is usually how it goes.

You’re messing around then ;)

I may lose on prince because someone is doing pretty good on the religious victory while I am “messing around” trying to get a damn culture victory. Also, are spies mostly useless? I have been trying to steal an artifact from greece for forever. It has a 50% chance of working, yet 7 attempts later, it always fails.
And yes, the AI is beyond bad. I really need to put this game down and hope they fix it. The constant spam of trade deals that are horrible is extremely annoying. IE: they want 3 different luxury resources and they offer 1 different one, 24 gold and 1 gold for 30 turns. I assume Ill lose the uses of these resources if traded, and if so, that is a terrible deal. Every other turn some AI player offers this. Not to mention to slow scientific progress, the poor military performance, and the diplomatic stupidity of declaring wars they can not win.
You can see the effects in the build video. Hover over the little circle next to the quote at the bottom.

Okay, that is at least better than nothing. Am I missing a way to bring up a unit or wonder’s civopedia entry directly from the map as you could do in Civ 5 with a proper click?
Eh, by your standards, probably. I play this type of game to experience the systems and the randomness of each play through. I don’t play to “win,” per se; I consider surviving to the end winning.

For those having a hard time seeing what’s going on, try toggling the 2D map - the rightmost button above the minimap. Not only does this make the game extremely clear to see but it also runs better. Unlike in previous Civ games it se ms like they spent some effort to make this look artistically appealing as well as visually clear. You may find it your favoriting way to play!
Big Question: HOW do I found a religion? I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong or not doing. The Civpedia is pretty sparse. I have been generating beaucoup faith since 3000 BC (fortunate village gift) but never, not once, have I been able to get from Pantheon to Religion or even a Great Prophet?
Likes: Districts are tremendous. Believe me.
Loves: The scenes when you complete a wonder, the view you get of it along with the actual tiles and improvements around the city is a thing to behold.
Civ VI vs. V or IV… Feels much less fiddly with amount of units and not being punished so bad for exceeding limits. Better balanced all around in terms of usefulness of gold and such. Customizing governments and tweaking as you go is useful as well. Barbarians actually more than a simple nuisance now which can be challenging early. (Beware the fog of war!)

Pretty sure you need a holy district.
Yeah, that may be it. Didn’t build a holy district for a long time and now I see actually that all the religions are spoken for. Oh well. Thanks.
The same happened in my first game. I didn’t found a religion and now all great prophets are gone. There does not seem to be a late game L. Ron Hubbard, whom I would probably have disbanded out of spite anyway.

Actually you need a Great Prophet, paid for with Faith Points - for which you need the Holy District. Also there’s a Wonder (Stonehenge, I believe) that grants a GP immediately

That view may take a little getting used to, but I believe you may be right about it being a favorite way to play. You can see everything quite clearly.

I’m not sure of the specifics, but I think the game compares your culture to other Civs culture. From this ((along with other things I think)) tourists are generated.

Okay, what asshat put in a Scott Adams quote for a Civ game?
Someone who thought he is a Great Writer?
EDIT: OOPS SORRY, I read Douglas Adams (i was thinking of the Pratchett Discworld quote). Very little sleep since Civ release.
