If you wouldn’t steal Fizzy Lifting Drink, you might get a lifetime supply of chocolate… BUT NOOOOO Grandpa Joe has to talk you into it then you have to burp your way out of a fan.

Ok, so like everyone else, I am busily playing (at least while I’m not at work…and here I’m busily reading about playing (mwaaaaa haaa haaaa haaaa)…but I have a few questions/comments that I thought maybe someone in the group might have the answers to:
- I am not getting any audio output from my surround sound speakers…is anyone else? Front R/L and Center are fine, but nothing from the rear.
- What do the performance levels do in options? Mine were set to low by the program, and I upped them both, and noticed turn movement was slower, but other than that nothing, so i set them back to Low.
- Someone mentioned Leader speeches…um, I don’t get leader speeches…is that maybe on of the performance level things?
- Is there an Advisors screen/report? I really miss not having an advisor tell me about the relative strengths of the militaries. I really want to take down Egypt to have Cleo stop telling me how weak I am, but if She’s that much stronger than me that she’s trash talking, do I dare?
- Not real clear on how both Amenities and Housing work. I think I’m starting to understand Amenities, but Housing is still kind of fuzzy.
- For the love of all that’s good and holy, how does border expansion work? Do I have to actually buy tiles for my border to expand?
- In the Soundtrack that came with the Digital Deluxe version, am I right in thinking it’s only the 19 Civ’s with 4 versions of their themes…no main title theme?
- What do Delegations do? More = Better?
Someone else upthread mentioned it, but how could they have taken keypad movement of units out? Is there a way maybe using the game files to put this back in?
Thanks for putting up with noob questions.
Tony
I can answer a couple of these:
A delegation makes the capital viewable, provides occasional “rumors,” and opens up basic options for diplomacy.

Thanks for the tips!
Do more delegations mean more info, or once I have sent one, I’m good? Seems like I’ve sent one to a Civ, only to have the option still show up in the Diplomacy screen, so I sent another.
Very good to hear the main theme is in the Soundtrack.
Tony
Each delegation you send raises your “access level” by one.
I thought the main title theme, was NOT the American theme.
Damn you Amazon, 2 more days!!!
GAH! You’re right - it’s “Sogno di Volare.” My mistake.
Yep. Takes 2 minutes. Worked perfect for me. You don’t even need to restart the game and can even be in the middle of a turn. Black magic I tell ye.
Edit: ah. I just realised you asked about unit movement not map. Not sure if it’s possible but have a read here:
How does WASD movement work on a 6 sided tile? :O
Just mash W and A to go diagonally. Duh. :)

When people are complaining about lack of WASD, they’re typically referring to moving the map, not units. Movement used to be handled using the numpad, but from the sound of it that’s missing from this release.

I feel like I’m missing something. I’m playing as England and had Norway and America declare war on me. Fine, as I’m way ahead on tech and military. Anyway, I’ve played a few more turns and captured two Norwegian cities and am threatening their capital. But they haven’t said anything to me and neither have the Americans. In fact, when I got to the diplomacy screen I see no options to talk to either one of them.
There has to be a way to end this war, right?
This happens to me constantly. Someone declares war on me, usually because I’m winning, that’s fine. I beat them into submission, start taking their cities and can no longer speak to them. I’ve had to conquer more Civs than I’d like. Alternatively, you can sit your units after beating on them for a while and they’ll come ask for peace. Which takes forever.
One of my minor complaints.

That almost sounds like a bug of some kind.
Adding to this: luxuries past the first of each type are only valuable for trade. The first luxury of a type gives you +4 amenity points and the rest give you nothing.

Housing:
(note this may vary by difficulty level so I’m going to answer what it is on Emperor, the specific numbers might be different on other levels)
If you don’t have at least two more houses than you have population, your population growth is reduced. If you only have one extra, you’re at 50% growth; no extra, 25% growth, and after that I think growth stops. Housing is kind of annoying to get. Farms and other food-producing improvements give half a house, some buildings like the Granary provide houses, some civic policies give housing if you have multiple speciality districts, I believe one government type gives housing if you have walls, and eventually there’s a district that provides a lot of housing.
Border expansion: It happens automatically but AFAICT unlike Civ 5 you don’t get to see what hex is coming next nor do you have a countdown for when it’s going to happen.

Do they only show up for trade once you have excess (2+)?

no, you can trade singletons also, so don’t do it by accident.

I had my first win. Emperor, standard map (8 civs), playing Aztec. I had a lucky start - there were two big continents, one with six civs and about four city-states, and one with me, Spain, and about eight city-states. So I wiped Spain pretty quickly and then just stayed at peace for the rest of the game, cheerfully taking my suzerain bonuses until the other civs discovered my continent and building up a science lead. I had even less military than usual because the city-states intercepted most of the barbarians.
The biggest oddity was that many other civs made fun of me for having a weak military, and they knew where my home city was, but even when they finally had the ability to cross the ocean nobody actually attacked me. Japan sent some missionaries because there was no religion on my continent, but that was about it.
