All right, after two abortive games, one was a fast one to see UI and the other was a horrid start. I won my first on Prince as Greece-not-Sparta and in my second am fairly surprised how flexible the “government as flash cards” idea is. I got the cheevo for 12 cards as Greece w/o knowing it was there. In random order …

I am not having the all the issues with AI you guys are. I am not sure why? Text at the bottom when I have been denounced states why. And yes, in all cases I am/did that. AI Civs both neighbors and non, if I pandered to their new bias, stuck with me and did a credible job of upholding friend/ally right into my final turns (with a large army nearby - so one AI chose that was not bullied).

When the AI has tried to take me out it made sense according to my take on AI for them to try. There is a bias to try harder early game, but rub one the wrong way and even if they aren’t denouncing you, the AI is weighing it. It is more predictable, whether that is more fun I guess I’ll see. And I agree, unless it is your neighbor and the troops were handy, when a far away AI war decs you, the way the troops dribble in to their doom is amusingly bad. But even when Germany tried an early rush, which I was expecting and came in a force that should have at least gotten my one new city if player controlled, nope. The “OWWW You Hurt Me! Run Away!” thing they do is a killer (for them). Barbarians seem to do it less, and are more annoying,

I have had hard crashes mid/late game. They feel like bugs, as I’m running with my perf mon on the other screen and I do not see a memory leak there.

I don’t mind your civ being in the same game as an adversary, but the UI issue is there. In general on the UI, some things are more exposed and better, like setting city focus on their nameplate. Others? Absent? Confusing? I hate hate hate the spy screen design. Some things take up less real estate, but that one is just new and real estate YUUUUGE.

I think they did a better job of making the Civs feel differentiated. Not as much as Endless Legend, but thats ok. They needed more than in Civ V imho, and they have it. We’ll see how I feel after I play more of the civs.

I think I like the new music. I listened to the soundtrack on youtube. THAT IS THE ONLY REASON I KNOW WHAT A CIV OTHER THAN ENGLAND SOUNDS LIKE! I have never played, England. But I have had them as a neighbor every game. But, every game, my music is set to England? I am starting to be as annoyed at another Scarborough Fair variant as I am at Pachelbel’s Cannon in D. Oh look that thing again. Is this just me? Do other people hear the music that matches their civ?

I am also feeling the late game slog combine with the units being obsolete by the time they finish building midgame thing and wondered about a marathon pace. If anyone tries it, let us know if it is better/worse?

That scarborough fair they chose is dreadful. Some of the other tracks are okay.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. The Queen-Mother denounced me for not having any spies. In 2000 BC. This game has some seriously broken features right now.

You might try playing today. Yesterday i noticed that Russia’s theme was playing over and over. I can’t tell for sure, but they may have changed how this works. I was going to post something but never got around to it, but you’re right, when you found another Civ all you heard was their music in loop forever; at least until you got to the next Age, where your new theme would play once. There were a couple of tricks you could do to get your own theme to play again, like zooming into your cities (i think?).

Oh, yea, this. Is there ever a reason to pick anything other than +1 hammers for most of the early game? Aside from a brief period when you want to spam out a particular unit most of the time you should default to that one, since one hammer is significantly more than 10% of an early cities’ output, and all of your cities get it.

This is why finding early city states is so crazy good. +2 research at first is double your research rate. Finding a couple of +2 hammer cities is like double your early production rate.

I like the music a lot, but is there a way to add a bit more silence between tunes? Ideally I’d like music for 3 minutes, then silence for 3 minutes, then music again.

The game appears to cycle through country-specific music for the civs which you have currently met. For instance, I was playing China and had met Kongo, Russia, and Norway. It would cycle through all four country’s music, although ironically it seemed like my own country’s music was the one that was played the least. It’s a little odd.

I’ve played three games now, and I think I liked Civ V more at launch than this.

There’s just so much here that seems obtuse, or broken, or just plain boring. I’m a little stunned. I’ve really liked all the Civs (even Civ Revolution) to varying degrees. I’m sort of struggling to stay interested in Civ VI.

I think I may drop out and just play Battlefield 1 over the weekend and see if I can come back with a fresh outlook.

If you want a pantheon early you might prefer the +1 money and faith. Unless you get a faith income from some other source.

Civ5 1.0 launch? With no religion, trade, an economic system requiring major overhauls, many resource tiles like wheat, cows, etc being barely noticeable, and global happiness completely out of wack? Major features like religion and trade required expansions, but the entire base of the game was off-kilter before the first couple major patches hit.

I’m just really surprised you like Civ5 release more!

To be fair, it was great.

There’s something about the theme of Civilization that attracts me. I think it’s cool to see those “pop” versions of historical civilizations competing to make a world that may or may not resemble our own.

But in terms of gameplay and artistry, judging from what I’ve played so far, I’d rather be playing Endless Legend.

I know. I know. Believe me, I’m just as surprised.

I don’t know how to explain it. I like the art style. I like the music. I like the district stuff. I like the changes to happiness. I think I like the way Builders work now. I like Traders automatically laying roads.

But…Something feels off to me. I’m just not enjoying this. With Civ V, I was having a good time even as I uncovered the flaws. (And, boy, were there ever some flaws!) While playing Civ VI, I can’t shake the feeling that I’d rather be playing something else.

That’s never happened to me with a Civ game at launch.

Is it the UI?

Maybe you’re just burned out on the formula? I know that after all of these years, it doesn’t hold the same magic it used to. I can’t imagine liking V more than this - personal preference I know, but I can’t think of anything it did better. Well, maybe having limited quantity strategic resources. I’m not crazy about VI’s handing of this.

I don’t think I’m burnt out. At least I think I could fire up Civ V tonight and spend a few hours happily playing a game.

I’m perplexed. :-/

Edit: Actually, you know what? I think part of it may be that I’m finding Civ VI is way more war-crazy than Civ V. The barbarians are nuts. The other civs are nuts. I feel like war is the default status in Civ VI. Even religion is just another form of warfare with the missionaries jumping in and trying to convert my citizens all the time.

I have this great image in my head of dudes in robes and regalia jumping out from dark alleyways and out of bushes and such, hollering at your people.

Which is kinda how things are in Total War. But I like it there, because the main draw is the tactical battles. There the overly aggressive AI facilitates the best parts of the game, in Civ it would serve to detract.

The thing I like about missionaries is they jump in and convert a city, I click the diplo option, the other civ says “yeah, yeah, okay I won’t do it anymore” and they do it again next turn. This happens 100% of the time. The devs just haven’t implemented any notion of good faith in the system. And all the war declarations tell me how evil I am. I’m just sitting here with my 3 cities turtling until you attack me for no reason…

Comparing the games on release I no doubt was much more elated with Civ 5 on release, mainly because the change to hexes and one unit per hex made such a big difference. As well as newly introduced city-states. It felt so much more streamlined, new and sleek compared to any other previous Civ I played since the very first one.

Civ VI is still awesome, but I hate when people rip on Civ V comparing it to previous Civs at the time with expansions (ala Civ IV BTS). In fact I liked the more simple approach on release (no religion or trade),

In the screenshots I’ve seen, Resources are listed at the top of the screen. But for me, I have a ‘View Reports’ button instead. Am I missing a setting, or is my resolution (1680x1050) too low?

EDIT: Are only Strategic Resources listed at the top?
