Clear Channel (Radio Monopoly) suspends Howie Stern

On the eve of a House hearing on broadcast indecency, the nation’s largest radio station chain suspended shock jock Howard Stern’s show, saying it did not meet the company’s newly revised programming standards.

Stern’s suspension Wednesday by Clear Channel Radio was the second time in two days that the company has acted against a disc jockey.

Clear Channel’s announcement did not say how many of its 1,200 stations carried the Stern show, which is distributed by Viacom’s Infinity Broadcasting and derives most of national audience from being carried by Infinity-owned stations. The Washington Post said the Stern show had been carried on six Clear Channel stations.

Since he’s only carried on six Clear Channels stations, this appears to be pandering to “Decency” advocates. It’s a pandering kind of year. Think of the children!

This is damned irritating to me. I don’t listen to his show, but if he stays off, a mid-day show I enjoy a great deal will be moved to the mornings, where I will no longer be able to listen to them. Still, the upshot is, perhaps people will begin to recognize the chilling effect radio monopolies have on freedom of speech.

Its about time! Too many people hide their filthy speech behind free speech and this sick, foul degenerate should be pulled totally off the air!!
If a station has to depend on Stern for ratings/revenue then they don’t need a license. Time to work the mop and broom and clean out ALL the garbage on radio and TV!!

I have a radio dial and it works pretty well. How about yours?

Mine only switches between AM, FM, and EBS. I have no control over the frequency.

Also, it may be too early to tell, but I think he was kidding.

I don’t think so, judging from the page linked in his profile, unless this is a really elaborate joke, in which case I applaud him.

If you don’t like his show then don’t fukin tune in. The public should decide a shows fate. If people like the show then it’s going to thrive and will succeed and if the publis hates the show then it will fail. We don’t need the government to intervene and to determine what we can and can’t listen to. This ruling is total bullshit.

This is why I hate America. The wacko Christains are now in charge and they want to set the rules. They don’t need to set the rules for me, because I’m an adult who can make that decision for myself. Who cares if Janet exposed her left tit? They have nudity in Europe and it’s not a big deal like it is here in the USA.

I agree with you, except that this isn’t a ruling, it’s a decision made by a company to not air material they don’t like. They have a right to do that.

Why the fuck should you decide what I can and can not watch. News flash… Stern’s show is damn entertaining. I listen to him every day. As I stated earlier if you don’t like what he has to say then don’t tune in. Simple isn’t it?

Those in favor of censorship generally believe that people often don’t know what’s good for them. Those against it think that people should be allowed to self-regulate. It’s not really a very fun issue to disagree about because you just end up scaling back to this subjective main idea.
