Clerks 3

Kevin Smith via Twitter:

Via @SpoiledSmokers “With HIT SOMEBODY now being 6 hour long scripts. Will you do one more Feature Film to officially retire on?” Ah-HA!

Since HIT SOMEBODY is now gonna be a mini-series, yes - that leaves room for a new final flick before I retire from directing feature films.

So with the HIT SOMEBODY shift, the minute Jeff Anderson signs on, my last cinematic effort as a writer/director will be CLERKS III. #TaDa

I’m probably the only person around who thought Clerks II was mostly horrible. Smith is a fantastic public speaker and his blogs are usually pretty funny, but as a filmmaker I always thought he was overrated.

Clerks 2 was a fun visit back with some old friends but it wasn’t all that good. Please don’t make a Clerks 3, Kevin. Come on. That’s a guaranteed bomb.

You, sir, are not.

Kevin Smith dialogue only sounds good coming out of Kevin Smith’s mouth. He’s like a Tarantino that made the horrible choice to be in every movie but to mostly be silent. For the life of me, I don’t see why Kevin Smith doesn’t direct some superhero movies. Seems like a match made in heaven.

I don’t think much of Kevin Smith’s moviemaking abilities, but Clerks 2 was admittedly pretty funny in parts and it did very well. I’d probably see Clerks 3.

Amen. Was kinda funny to watch once, not worth a repeat. I certainly won’t pay anything to watch a Clerks 3. (Might check it out from the library a year after release, if they’re dumb enough to buy a copy.)

I just listened to SModcast for the first time in a year. Is it just him, stoned, by himself now?

And here I was thinking I was the only one who was completely disappointed by Clerks II, as well. Just seemed like he was spinning his wheels with it.

No, Mosier is still usually on, though this week (and I guess next?) it’s just Kevin talking with the two brothers from My Chemical Romance, which I could give two shits about. That said, I really loved the series of unearthed audiotapes from Smith’s past they did a few weeks ago. A bunch of making fun of a young (pre-Clerks) Kevin still finding his voice and mostly failing. But yes, he is now always very stoned.

From the A.V. Club’s coverage:

So now Smith’s final song of himself will end with a coda reprising its very beginning, with Smith saying he’ll get to making Clerks III “the minute Jeff [“Randal”] Anderson signs on.” Ostensibly this will follow a prolonged series of negotiations in which Anderson weighs his options, then agrees that he can always just DVR stuff that week.
Actually, now Kevin Smith's final movie will be Clerks III

That was probably the most humor I’ll get from Clerks III.

I guess I’m an oddity in this thread, but I really liked Clerks II. I’m not bubbling over with excitement for it or anything, but I’ll see Clerks III in theaters.

Clerks 2 had its moments. Some of Randal’s harassment of the dorky kid was amusing, I liked the Jackson 5 ABC dance scene, and playing BJ Thomas’ Raindrops was pretty sweet.

Smith is one of the few arguments that makes me rethink legalizing weed. It has not been good for him. He’s gone from stupidly funny to just stupid in the last couple of years.

Hmm I haven’t seen anything newer than Zack and Miri Make a Porno but film-wise he hasn’t been funny for a long, long time.

I take it you mean his personality/podcasts etc though? From what I’ve heard he wakes and bakes everyday which is pretty nutty. Why does everything have to be a lifestyle with it’s own magazine and clothing line nowadays…I blame Ke$ha.

I think Smith is a great writer who has a firm grasp on childish humor. I just think he’s a terrible director. Put his script in the hands of Apatow (however it’s spelled) as a producer and almost anyone else as a director and you’d have comedy gold.

He would hunt me down and kill me for this, but he has George Lucas syndrome. Great ideas and a lot of success leading to bad future execution.

Kevin Smith almost died yesterday. Had a big heart attack. If he hadn’t gotten to the hospital in time, he would have probably died. Complete blockage of the “widowmaker” artery.

Jesus, glad to hear he made it.

So, did Clerks 3 ever come out? I watched Clerks 2, but have literally zero memories of it.

Nope. It fell apart. The rumor was that Jeff Anderson (Randal) didn’t want to do it.

Guess he didn’t have TiVo.

I’m glad Kevin Smith survived. I still listen to Smodcast, though it seems he’s been off his game on it for a while. Hate to say it, but I hope this near-death experience for Kev guilts Jeff Anderson into doing Clerks 3. I mean what the hell else does he have going on?

I listen to many of his podcasts most weeks myself, including HBO and Fatman/Batman - what do you mean by this?
