Clive owen is bond!

Watching West Wing on Bravo, and they just had a CNBC Business Report update.

Clive Owen is expected to be named the 6th Bond as Brosnan is stepping down. Official word is supposed to come soon!

Damn, I was hoping for Rupert Everett as the first gay Bond.

Still mostly rumor till you hear otherwise… I mean, Brosnan said just a few months ago he sitll wanted to do one more. It’s hard to say typically… this may fall into the “Nicholas Cage as Superman” camp.

It was interesting that there was some groundswell movement for Owen as Bond when the BMW films came out though.

Maybe Privateer 2 finally will be worth something?

Clive Owen would probably be a good Bond. He’s actually pretty good in those BMW films, though he doesn’t do much but drive in most of them.

At least he can change facial expressions. All Brosnan did in the last two films is run around with a cocky, wooden half-smile. It’s almost as bad as Harrison Ford’s constipated look.

He doesn’t look suave enough. He looks more like a muscle man.

Anybody see the Thomas Crown Affair? Brosnan played a better James Bond in that movie than he did in all his Bonds movies combined.

Hell, Brosnan played a better Bond in The Tailor of Panama.

I dunno; there wasn’t enough skiing down collapsing glaciers in The Tailor of Panama for my liking. And where the hell were the invisible cars, dammit?!

I don’t know about his acting, but I prefer Clive Owen’s look to Brosnan’s. He always seemed a little too pretty, too much of a fop to be Bond (but was perfect as Remmington Steele). Owen has a rougher look that seems more appropriate to a super secret agent.

All you gotta do is go watch “Croupier” and you can see that Owen definitely has the look and attitude to play a great Bond.

I’m more excited about who’s going to play the new Dr Who. I hear Eddie Izzard is a candidate.

Or the other film he did with Mike Hodges, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead. He’s a great bad-ass.

Actually the Bond in the books wasn’t as suave either, and was more of a tough bad-ass.

I think Clive Owen has the right look and attitude, but I think the Broccoli family (or whoever controls the creative license for Bond) needs to stop cornering the market on stupidity and allow Bond to get back to its roots. It’s not about having 1.3 million gadgets specifically tailored to each circumstance the stunt coordinator made up in pre-production.

Sure there are gadgets, but lets get back to some real action and espionage thriller stuff… and Bond babes.

Action over Bond babes? Let’s not get too hasty there fella.

Well, maybe when they start making movies from Ian Flemings originals again…

I thought they ran out of Ian Fleming stories.

Hopefully they run out of Bond films to make too… once brosnan came in Bond died.
