Finale to season 5 felt a bit too crammed and maybe the silliest that Cobra Kai has been up to now, but overall I had a blast with this season. I felt several of the characters had some of their best moments here, especially Johnny and Miguel. Miguel realizing he already had the father he wanted when Johnny showed up at the end of episode two was a really sweet moment, in particular.
This was me and my kid’s thoughts also.
They’ve kind of run out of stories to tell with the original group and the Valley without spinning wheels… so they’re going big. I think this season lost a bit of its charm because of it, and now you’ve got Kreese running around, escaped from prison. It’s good they’re calling it after next season; I’ve enjoyed the show and don’t want to see it drag on for the sake of it.
6 seasons of this is probably way more than any rational human being would think. :) Hell it’s shocking they got season 1 and that was on the crappy YT service that was quickly canned.
Even more shocking that they were good!
I’ll even come out and say it, the show is better than the movies.
Don’t get me wrong, the films were gloriously 80’s and part of my childhood. But from a narrative and technical sense the show is the superior. Granted its written for a bunch of middle aged adults who were kids in the 80’s and 90’s, and not for kids in the 80’s, but still.
About the movies… Sony’s making another one, almost certainly based off the series’ success. No cast, crew, or synopsis, but they have a June 7, 2024 release date already.
I watched the final two episodes last night. What a ride. I am ride or die for Chozen.
I actually shouted, “NO!” at one point during his fight. I’ve never done that in a movie or TV show ever. Also, Mrs. LaRusso in that tight red number was lovely. Carmen, too.
Sony has zero chill. They’re going to ruin Karate Kid just like they’re trying their damnedest to ruin Spider-Man.
Something to distract us from the imminent demise of democracy what with followers of the former guy planning to take over whether they win the election or not. :-/
This series has always been so much better than I expected. Genuinely excited to see how they wrap it up, as much as I don’t want it to end.
I, for one, welcome our new adults-playing-teenagers overlords. I hope the show leans into that part super hard. Maybe Stingray won’t feel so delightfully out of place.
Watched ep 1 last night with the kid. Same old stuff. Actually when it was over, I told the kid I might not watch anymore…just run its course. Fun first few seasons, loved it, now just like real life, goes on and on.
The show was originally focused on Johnny and Daniel (where at first Daniel was almost like the “bad guy”, as everything was told from Johnny’s POV.). The show became more and more about the martial arts kids and their drama, and became more like what I imagine a typical CW show would be.
I truly loved season 1, and definitely enjoyed season 2, but it’s less of what I want each season.
I got bored after season 2. Still amazing how they were able to drag this out so long. I also get bored of everything. I’m the worst to watch a series with. ;)
It was frankly amazing they made a watchable show at all, much less one that was awesome for an entire season. Anything after that is just gravy.
What originally made the show tick is the way the characters get under each other’s skin so damn well. As long as they keep that going, the show can go on, but certainly the novelty has worn off.
Eh it’s the last season, but they are expecting spinoffs. I think the greatest thing was reviving Zabka’s career. He was the ultimate bully in the 80s. If he can pivot to anything else remains to be seen though.
Checked IMDB and doesn’t seem like he has anything else lined up yet. They also revived NPH’s career with the White Castle movie and NPH certainly took the ball and ran with it.
Zabka was legit great in this show, especially the early seasons. You could really empathize and even feel bad for Johnny.
It’s a super hero show now. It took the Rocky path. I like all the Rocky movies, except maybe 5, so I’m fine with it.
