Jeezus kee-rist.
Reminds me of an Auburn-Tennessee game my freshman year there - might have been 1984, because we played at Tennessee - and Tennessee won. Bad news for those of us in the AU marching band, because the rabid drunks who tore down the goalpost decided to take it out the exit right next to our section of the stadium. One of the uprights sort of swept through the band, and at least two of us ended up with concussions.
Moral: Don’t f with UT students and their damned football.

That would have been 1985 jerri. Auburn was ranked #1, had Bo Jackson as a Heisman frontrunner, and Sports Illustrated was all set up to plaster Bo on their cover the next week. Tony Robinson from Tennessee went off like a bomb on Auburn, and Tennessee won 38-20. The SI cover featured Tony in stride with the caption “Tennessee Waltz”. I was a sophomore in high school, but damn that game was fun. Sorry if I helped hit you with the goal post. ;)
If nothing else comes from this, I am proud that my nephew, a band guy graduating this spring, actually got out there amongst the rabble and pitched a few things on a random bonfire. A little civil disorder on a college campus is fun!
trying hard to remain a grownup as I text my niece to stay out of this…
You are correct, sir. My memories of it aren’t quite as vivid because of the head injury. :)

Coming from you, I take this as a compliment. You always seem to get everything exactly wrong.
Good night!

Yeah, see, he said you’d respond this way, too. :)

Wow. Kiffin is a jerk. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt with the whole Raiders thing because of Al Davis and even thought him going to Tennessee wasn’t that bad of deal. Then he turned into a jackass blowhard.
And his dad going along with all of this doesn’t reflect well on him either.
Tennessee will ultimately be better off and watching USC crash and burn will be all the more enjoyable now.
This is an opportunity for UT to hire someone who’s not a brat with a big mouth. And there are a few good coaches floating around.

Muschamp was offered the Tenn job last year and turned it down then. I don’t see what’s changed. Maybe more money? Not enough imo.

Perhaps he’ll reassess the likelihood of Mack Brown leaving the job any time soon.
One of these days a recruited college athlete who gets lied to is going
to sue the hell out of a coach and school for fraud/misrepresentation. Damages might be
hard to prove but liability looks easy
Poor Tommy Tuberville. If he had waited one more week the Tenn job would have opened up. Instead, he signed up for Texas Tech. He must be kicking himself.
Hey, he could always bail out.

Muschamp declined an offer this morning according the rumor mill.
I dunno - Auburn fans still are (mostly) kinda warm and fuzzy about Tubs, and it would have been hard for him to go to a conference rival.
Of course, what do I know?
I doubt any kid’s football commitment includes any sort of binding contractual language that requires the coach to stay put. Liability is non-existent.
They ought to sue the NCAA instead. Kids go to some programs because they want to learn and grow under a particular coach, some of whom are excellent leaders and great opportunities. When he leaves, you shouldn’t be stuck there for an entire year or go through a ridiculous waiver process just so the NCAA can preserve the student athlete sham.
Probably. However, you still have coaches sitting in the living room telling parents that they will take care of their kid for the next four years. Just record him saying that, and you might at least have a case.

In the press conference earlier today a reporter asked Tennessee AD Mike Hamilton “How would you describe Lane Kiffin’s tenure at Tennessee?”
Mike Hamilton: “Brief.”
There is talk that the Tennessee Board of Trustees is talking to Phillip Fulmer about coming back as either AD or head coach. THAT’S going to fix the problem.
Probably the biggest letdown for UT is that the SEC East will be pretty open and in flux next year. Now they’re going to be stuck in the same boat.
