That post is EXACTLY why I hoped TCU would lose yesterday.
Meh. Auburn fans were twice as obnoxious in 2004.
How much money is Florida blowing on all these coordinators?
It got me thinking about how I’d pick my staff if I were a head coach for a big college football team. Is it a good idea to take NFL guys that might bolt for another pro job? Is it safe to take a rising star on the college level, like a master of the hot new trend on offense? Athletic directors will be throwing head coaching money at them in no time.
I’d like to know more about the Charlie Weis thing. Why is he coming back to the college level?

I hope you’re being sarcastic. Expecting your head coach not to beat his wife is hardly what I’d call “unreasonable expectations.”
They throw 5 DB’s out there, and their LB’s are basically safeties. Their DL are basically given free rein to maul and rush without worrying about run containment. Nebraska’s defense is specifically geared to stop the pass and to make your QB look bad.
As Hanacker said, just be glad you’re getting the benefit of the doubt this year instead of shafted like you were in 2004.
Yep, Nebraska’s base defense is the “peso” (modified nickel defense). It’s a great defense and totally shuts some teams down, assuming they don’t try something fiendishly tricky like running the ball.
Which sorta begs the question of why they are going to the Big 1G, where at least 7 out of the 11 teams rely heavily on their run game. And where the offensive and defensive lines are corn-fed beef compared to the Big 12-1 teams that have more and more relied on passing in the past few years.
Of course, given the Big 1G’s bowl results, Nebraska may just have a heavy diet of corn-fed beef on their plates…
And the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band has been banned from the Orange Bowl halftime show because the organizers are afraid they might hurt LeBron’s feelings.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Pelini has already said that Nebraska’s going back to a base 4-3 defense starting next year. You adapt your schemes to match what the teams in your conference are trying to do. The peso made perfect sense against the spread, which is what most teams in the Big 12 run.

What do you think the decision will be on Rich Rodriguez (U of Mich)? If he weren’t reponsible for the horrendous defense coaching situation I’d have him stay. If they can’t get Jim Harbough I’d have him stay as well, but they’d have to do something drastic about the defense.
RichRod is a dead man walking. Michigan’s just waiting for the Orange Bowl to end before it makes an announcement, I bet.
As ESPN’s Adam Shefter said today (granted, he’s a UM grad), the thing is there are 32 NFL teams, but there’s only one Michigan. Harbaugh can always coach in the NFL later, but this may be his only shot at Michigan for a long time.

I was referring to both Maryland and Pitt firing good solid coaches just in the hope that they can somehow get better. It was not a reference to Pitt’s first replacement attempt.
Rich Rod will be fired but I don’t think Michigan will get Jim Harbaugh. I don’t think Harbaugh’s desire is to be a college coach, I think his desire is to be an NFL coach like his brother.

So I’m watching the Orange Bowl on DVR, watched most of it in real time, then speeded it up when I saw where it was going.
This is my first time to see Stanford play this season, and they look good. Luck actually looked pretty average in the first half, but I know you can’t judge a QB on what he did in one game/half.
I know the entire football universe raves about him, and he did look great at moments tonight.
My biggest problem with Stanford is the helmet stickers. Six year old leagues giving out helmet stickers is okay, I guess. Major college football teams? No. I hate those damn things, FSU does it, Georgia does it, pretty sure OSU does it, but it just looks so…Pee-Wee football-ish.
AND Luck throws another td as I’m typing. Give that man a sticker!!

If they were sparkly stars instead I’d be off for it!

Oh, I get it. Yeah. Makes complete sense now. My bad.
ESPN’s saying RichRod’s having a meeting with his boss…
Reckon he’s down on his knees begging yet?
If the reports are true that Harbaugh doesn’t want the job, and if the AD already knows this (I would hope he’s had at least a casual conversation with Harbaugh already) my bet is that RichRod keeps his job for another year. He’s told to fire his Defensive Coordinator, the AD hires the new one (who will be pretty much free of RichRod’s influence), and they give him some sort of lame ultimatum.
edit: or I could be completely wrong.
UM has already thrown what, over $10mil at this guy? They don’t want to blow another $2.5 buying him out early.
Even though it appears Michigan is out of the Harbaugh races, the fans are hanging on to every hope, including a report that someone flight tracked a plane going from Ann Arbor to Hollywood, Fla today. Hollywood, Fla, is apparently the airport for the Orange Bowl.
If they don’t get Harbaugh, Ann Arbor is going to melt down. Meanwhile, partying will occur in Columbus.

Michigan fans need to lower their expectations. Mike Leach is still available. And Lane Kiffin will always move for a few extra dollars.
