Comcast advice

Living in mostly rural PA, I don’t exactly have a lot of options for Internet. Last Year I switched from Century Link to Comcast, because Century Link was too slow after we moved.
Comcast was okay, but comes with Television and HBO (something I have little interest in) for 50 a month. Sadly, that deal just ended and cost went up to 70 a month. So, I guess I am looking for advice to proceed. I am hoping to get the price back to 50 dollars, and I wouldnt mind getting rid of the cable box.

Sadly, I can’t go back to Century Link, since they don’t offer my than 10 mbs. Should I go the cancellation route with Comcast to get a better deal, or just try to downgrade to internet only (as if that would be cheaper, lol).

I’d call them and ask to speak with their customer retention specialists. They’ll look at all their promotions and such to try to get your price down. Internet only won’t be cheaper.

Is RCN an option?

I have RCN for phone and internet in PA, no TV service, $75 a month for 330mb.

I know they are mostly in Eastern/South-Eastern PA.

Similar boat here. We cut the cord except for basic and went max Internet with Comcast. The Amazon HBO subscription seems to take care of that one niggling detail. Any tiny gaps, I just make up for with Amazon or iTunes streaming.

Every year or so I call Comcast and just tell them straight up: “I’m calling to see if we can lower my cable bill by $50 a month.” There’s always some limited time offer that they throw at me that gets there or close.

I’m in South Central PA and just recently got Comcast to lower the bill since the special had run out. Just call and ask for a reduction. If they don’t bite then try again in a month.

BTW, my bill is $80/month with basic + HBO + 300mb internet speed, so a bit more than you (just to show how comcast bills vary even in the same region)

I too am in South Central PA. We get 60 MB done, and it looks like it would be 73 for the bundle, but it was 54 after taxes and fees.

We had to go to Comcast because our provider was no longer available. We got a deal for 25 Mbps for $39, soon raised to 55 Mbps. Then I got an offer in the mail for $29, called them and they switched to that. After one year at $29 and the speed increased to 73 Mbps, I was concerned at what we would now have to pay, but was surprised that they now charged just $39.

Your price is liable to go up if you try to drop tv, however, you might be able to drop to a lower tier (without hbo) and get the price down a bit

Yes, that was exactly what they told me as well.

Don’t rely on thier website as they want to sell you phone as well. It’s a pain, but I recommend to just call them directly and tell them you would like a better deal, they typically help out.

Right. We have a land line which we don’t use, because the bill is cheaper that way.

Yes, this is pretty common. I know for us we would have dropped TV completely, but the price difference for internet only, and the basic basic cable with HBO was roughly $3 a month so…

It’s worth it for the HBO streaming and (to a lesser degree) Xfinity on demand.

So, I finally made the phone call and sadly, they didn’t have a lot of options. I finally decided to drop Television and went with Internet along. Slightly slower, but not terrible.

Oddly enough, it seemed to be the same price, but Comcast charges 10 dollars in fees on Television so it should be 6 or so dollars more than I am paying now and about 15 dollars less than they want to charge me.

Maybe in the future, I can add television back for some kind of deal.

Just wanted to say, Fuck Comcast and Fuck Autopay!

Because my credit card company flagged my account for having a typo in the address, my auto payment failed to go through, and now they are charging me a 10 dollar late fee.

I didn’t know my account had been flagged after 2 years for a typo, and I didn’t know the payment had failed, and neither party decided to bother getting in touch with me.

That’s super weird. I’ve been late on a couple of Comcast bills and they notified me by mail and by phone that I was late. And no late fee. But I pay manually.

Maybe autopay is outsourced in your area, or something? That sucks.

Anyway, I would call them again and escalate up the chain, because that’s BS.

I will tonight.

Arise from the grave.

So, I did get a good enough deal on my internet last time, but it seems the bigger part of my deal goes away after June.

Are there any tiles for keeping a deal going?

I figure, I could casual drop the idea that I am looking at CenturyLink (a big lie) next week, and see if there is anything else available.

You could tell them you got an invite into the Starlink beta…

99.00 a month would not exactly be saving me any money. But it looks like its actually an option for me.

We get stuck with like $260/month. That’s Internet, phone, and cable. That’s because while there are options like Dish or Direct TV for that stuff, Comcast is the only game in town for reliable high-speed Internet. I suppose if I could figure out a way to ditch cable and still get all the shows we DVR regularly (not sure all of them are streamable, or streamable within a day or so of airing), we could cut that out, but it is next to impossible to figure out how to unbundle stuff with Comcast. The website gives literally zero info, saying you have to call them. We only keep the phone because cell service has been terrible where we are, but it seems to be better now.

tl;dr, I really hate paying as much as we do but my where gaming is my thing, my wife is really into the (admittedly very good these days) stuff you can get on cable, and there seems no way to get fast broadband and ample HD television for any reasonable price in this area.
