That was James Grey’s 2014 film The Immigrant, starring Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Renner and Joaquin Phoenix. Very good film overall and especially recommended if you are a sucker for production design.

If it is those two, I’d say it’s a David Lynch movie, as they’ve worked with him before. But, again, I’m drawing a blank.
