Come guess this movie in the 2017 20:20 game!

Spacecamp?

It’s not Spacecamp, but i must immediately find out what Spacecamp is.

Edit: The young attendees of a space camp find themselves in space for real when their shuttle is accidently launched into orbit.

Oh this sounds tempting…

I’d call it mostly great. It has some of the most horrifying, gruesomely effective scenes ever put on film, especially the destruction of the ghetto. It does have its flaws, mostly involving Spielberg’s seeming need to to have Schindler turn into some kind of saint. The real Schindler never did lose his character flaws. Toward the end of his life he was trying to borrow money from the people he saved. I would have liked to see THAT Schindler on film: A flawed person who is still capable of heroic action, but that seems to go against Spielberg’s sentimentality.

Oh, that’s interesting. It’s been a looong time since I watched Schindler’s List so I don’t remember the Spielbergian schmaltz.

Do that; it’s incredible.

I watched Schindler’s List for the first time a few months ago. I had always heard what CraigM said about it, that it’s a great movie that you’ll never want to watch again. So I always avoided it since it sounded like it was 3+ hours of grief porn and that didn’t sound too appealing. A couple things changed my mind. The first was that I had developed an appreciation for black and white film through watching a ton of 1960’s Japanese films. I came across stills of it and was blown away by how gorgeous it looks. The second was that Ralph Fiennes plays an SS captain. I had no idea he was in the movie and while I didn’t quite care for Coriolanus, I thought his performance in it was fantastic. I figured he’d be pretty intense in Schindler’s List and really the curiosity to see his performance is what drove me to finally watch it. He didn’t disappoint at all, he was such a good villain. Anyway, awesome movie, and obviously there is a lot more than just Ralph Fiennes’ performance to appreciate in it. I’m also glad it didn’t turn out to be this soul-crushing traumatic movie experience I thought it would. Was pretty much in the same vein as The Pianist to me.

I guess that depends on your age and knowledge of the events depicted. Seeing it, as I did, in your pre/ early teens left a profound impact. It was the kind of crushing experience because I hadn’t fully come to contextualize and appreciate the full weight of horror that was the Holocaust.

As an adult, who probably has a far greater depth of understanding of it than my 13 year old self did, it won’t have that kind of soul crushing effect, I could imagine. That said I think it is probably kind of important to have that kind of moment to truly begin, begin, to grasp what happened.

The forty:

Damn that’s a cool frame!

Dreamscape?

Invaders from Mars

@Woolen_Horde has it, well done! This is indeed Tobe Hooper’s Invaders from Wars, which i’ve only seen once. To ten year old me at least, the notion that everyone around you, including your parents, could be turned against you was utterly terrifying.

The 60:

And finally the 80:

Over to you, @Woolen_Horde.

Okay, apologies for the delay, but it’s been a crazy news day.

Ya know, I only saw Invaders from Mars once myself, and it was like 30 years ago, and I didn’t like it. But I guess that tunnel made an impression. And, oh man, Tobe Hooper. Talk about an up-and-down track record. Guy does stuff like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist, and then a naked-space-vampires-overrun-London movie, Lifeforce (Patrick Stewart has his first kiss, and it’s with another man!)

Anyway, good luck. I double-checked the list to make sure this hasn’t been done, as that’s been a problem with me of late. Next screen will be early AM, as I leave for work bloody, bloody early.

20:20

Sorry to interrupt the thread, but this news makes me sad:

Mary Tsoni found dead

Since we did her movie Dogtooth less than a month ago, I thought putting it here made more sense than starting a new thread about it. It’s a weird movie, and she was really good in it.

Man, how am I supposed to post a 40 after news like that? I’ll wait to later today, I suppose.

Sorry Woolen.

The Forest?

Nope.

The Jared & Ivanka Story, a Lifetime movie.

[Does anyone else see the admittedly vague resemblance?]

Nope.
