[B]UPDATE: We have two private regions that are fairly populated, but due to the numerous server issues, I would encourage folks to simply set up public servers and find them using the friends filter under the “join game” tab. For instance, Qt3 Black and Qt3 Green are both public servers you can find if you filter using my name, “tomchick”. Alternatively, follow this thread for announcements of new regions.
But note that as of March 8, the information below is out of date and I won’t be setting up private servers due to the numerous issues with the game.[/B]
If you’re playing SimCity and you’d like to join one of the private Qt3 regions, we’d love to have you! We’re on the North America West 1 server.
Friend tomchick on Origin and send me a message, or post your Origin name here. Once we’re Origin buddies, I’ll send you and invite and you can claim an available city in the region. You don’t have to be a frequent player, and you don’t have to even know what you’re doing. Feel free to use the region as a learning tool. You won’t break anything and you won’t hold anyone back. Furthermore, you’ll benefit from our cities and we’re happy to help. And if you decide this isn’t for you, you can always abandon your city to give up the slot for someone else.
However, I would make two requests:

Please don’t take more than one city in the region. Playing multiple cities in a region is a pretty cool way to experience SimCity, but there are plenty of places to do that. In these regions, we’d like to encourage relying on each. We’d also like to fit in as many people as want to join.

Please name your city with some sort of variation on your forum name. You can check the mayor of a city to see his or her Origin name. However, since Origin names don’t always line up with forum names, and since cities are more often referred to by city name than mayor name, it’ll make the social element clearer if we can tell who you are by your city name. (Note that you won’t be able to name your city until you develop it a little bit, at which point the option appears at your town hall.)
Currently there’s a Qt3 region set up in Titan’s Gorge called Quarter to Three Blue. There is room for 16 folks in here. We’ll add more regions as necessary.

Chick’s Coaltown is up and running! Save the money you’d spend on a power plant by going to the region view, clicking the power icon at the bottom of the screen, and buying it from Chick’s Coaltown. Your city will only spend as much as it needs and you’ll be able to afford all sorts of various amenities with the money you would have spent on a stinky coal plant or whatever.

Aw crud! This game is out already? Dang, how did I miss that… probably watching Steam for my new releases. I have a lot of catching up to do including figuring out if I have an Origin account and where to buy the game. If I get set up in time, I will be in. Sounds really cool.

Absolutely! It seems you can freely bop around servers if you want, but the current Qt3 region is in North America West. As long as you’ve logged in there, I think I can send you an invite regardless of whether you’re also playing on another server.
I’ll keep updating the original post as I’m able to send out invites. If you name is listed up there yet, it’s because I can’t see you as invite-able yet.
