Harmon’s been asked by nbc to return.

Time to get those hopes up! :P

Holy shi…

I will wet myself right here and right now if this is true.

Honestly, when I first read about the break in that news bit and how Harmon was talking about it, my first thought was “he must have said no or else he wouldn’t be talking about it so openly” but I didn’t read the whole thing, was there more to the story that would indicated he didn’t outright tell them to fuck off?

… or perhaps I’m wrong, and Harmon is totally into returning after all. Interesting that, according to this article, the season 4 show runners declined coming back though.

As was noted upthread, apparently none of Harmon’s TV pilots got picked up, so he doesn’t have any better offers at this point.

He did have a cameo on Arrested Development though.

Still catching up on episodes. Even without Harmon, this season has already had some great episodes. I just watched the puppet/musical episode, and I loved it. Before that, I really liked the Abed goes to the dance with two women episode too.

You liked the puppet/musical episode? I thought that was one of the worst ones. I liked what they tried to do but it just didn’t work for me. But I did like the season overall.

I’ve only watched the first three episodes of this season and I hated them. I’m about ready to write the season off, can anyone recommend any highlights?

All of it? Including the episodes you hated?

According to Harmon’s twitter, he is indeed back! I’m mobile and can’t link easily.

Harmon is confirmed as back for season 5.

Looks like everyone learned some hard lessons in season 4.

Apparently the cast spearheaded the effort to bring Harmon back.

It really does seem that Chase was a divisive figure in the cast. I know Harmon is a bit of a loudmouth as well and should have handled Chase with a bit more maturity (considering that Chase seemed unwilling to step up in that area), but it seems like Chase alienated everyone.

note: I did see the caveat in the above article that animosity with Chase wasn’t an issue…but after all the stuff we’ve read over the last few years about his and Harmon’s behavior towards each other, I can’t help but think that’s just diplomacy at work.

They’re also only 16 episodes away from reaching the magic 100 episodes that most networks look at as the syndication milestone, though plenty of series have gone on to syndication with less epsiodes. Even if they only do another 12-13 episode short season arc they would still almost certainly qualify for syndication. That may have factored into Sony and NBC’s willingness to both renew the series and bring Harmon back on board.

While everyone is being politically correct and standing behind the “Chase leaving has no bearing on Harmon’s decision to return” you have to think that, while it may not have been the deciding factor, it certainly made the decision a whole lot easier. As a fan of the show I’d rather lose Pierce and gain Harmon than vice versa. A couple of my favorite episodes were Pierce-centric (8-bit one for example), but I think they’ve about played Pierce out at this point, and I’d rather see a return to the glory of episodes like “Dungeons and Dragons” and “Chaos Theory” than sit through another Season 4 just so Sony can sell the show in syndication.

I think they need to make Leonard the new Pierce.

I just saw the Christmas episode and the Freaky Friday switching bodies episode.

Yes, I’m disappointed the Christmas one wasn’t Die Hard in a Restaurant, but the episode they had was pretty great. I did not see the twist coming, and Malcolm McDowell is a really great villain, even in a Community episode.

The Freaky Friday episode, I have to say, is better than the vast majority of Season 1, 3, and 4. I thought it was as good as a lot of the episodes of Season 2.

Only two more episodes to go. I’m so glad this season happened, even without Harmon. Though I’m glad to hear he’s back. Hopefully the time away will make it so that we don’t get the lowlights of Season 3 returning again.

The origin stories episode was very sweet. As was the last episode of the Season. Once again, the twist near the end made it all make sense. The Freaky Friday episode remains my favorite of the season though.

Donald Glover will only appear in 5 of next season’s 13 episodes. What a bummer.
