Have been watching the show with my wife since it showed up on Netflix we’re about 25% of the way through season 2 so far we both enjoy the show quite a bit but we both also hate Abed’s constant reliance on pop culture and meta humor except for the season 1 episode with his dad Abed episodes have so far been garbage I don’t want to hear this show compared to other shows I don’t want to hear one plot device compared to other shows with the same plot device I don’t want to spend half an episode trying to understand a stupid series of referential pop culture jokes and scene-for-scene rehashes I enjoy his character playing off Troy but the whole schtick about him only understanding people through a TV/Movie filter just kills the character for me because of the way it’s executed his dialogue and contribution to a scene is way too often dependent on taking the viewer out of Community and forcing them to figure out what the fuck he’s blabbering about, or having to take the time to explain his stupid references to someone who has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about half the time only for the “joke” to land with a thud and finally, the actor playing Abed speaks too quickly and doesn’t give listeners a chance to parse anything before the camera cuts away a lot of the time and I hate having to rewind 10 seconds only to find out what I missed was just another stupid movie reference that means absolutely fuck all to the story unfolding on the screen.
That post made a lot more sense after I noticed it was kerzain. I’m gonna guess that this show is only going to get worse for you. Season 1 was a little more sincere with its community college gimmick, but from season 2 & on it becomes increasingly focused on deconstructing story structure through Abed. His character is the heart of the show, and if you don’t like Abed’s trope, then you won’t really like Community as a whole. You would especially hate the final finale. (There are several, since the show was perpetually on the verge of cancelation.) This show is a show about shows. It’s fine not to like that, but that’s what it is.
My complaint is largely the same as Kerzain’s, though perhaps not to the same degree. We are into Season 6 now, and it definitely gets weaker the further in you get. At this point, they are shoe-horning new characters in because the cast has withered. But the worst episodes of Season 3 and beyond are the Abed-centric ones. Very offputting. I understand the meta nature of things, but with very few exceptions his documentary stuff is just a useless layer onto something already weak.
I did enjoy the GI. Joe episode, though. Probably the strongest in quite a while.
That’s a huge sentence, it was painful to try and parse but the gist of it seems to be you have terrible taste. :)

I have a problem with Community that’s probably similar. I never felt that they earned the cohesion of the group or the world. The show spends so much time in meta mode, that it never builds up the characters in a way that gives you a sense that they’re more than a device. This is why I think Harmon’s writing really belongs more in a cartoon show like Rick and Morty.

That whooshing sound is Kerzain’s meta post passing above…
He was parodying Abed’s run-on fast-talking style; he even mentions it.
That said, Troy and Abed are the pinnacle of television and any criticism of them is wrongheaded.
I hope it has blanket and pillow forts.
I’ve seen way worse games on Steam.

Wow! Does it support VR or not? The video references it, but there’s no VR compatibility listed in the product specs.
They really Britta’d that.
… and a movie?
But will the Russo brothers direct? (And will it cost $200 million?)

I assume this will be straight to Peacock, but whatever, I’ll pay for a month for this!
Hmmm, well, I’d say after reading the story that this is probably Harmon’s wishful thinking more than anything we should start getting excited about yet.
No deal is in place. There’s a story treatment but no script. They’re in “negotiations,” but that’s pretty meaningless when it comes to getting anything actually done.
Oh well, we can all hope!
So does that include This is America and Chevy?
I spent a whole minute thinking “America Ferrera wasn’t in Community” before that properly processed. I may need more coffee.
And Pierce is, of course, dead in-universe, though I suppose there’s nothing to prevent a ghost/evil twin/second hologram from popping up.
Most of the cast are very enthusiastic about the idea when asked about it publicly, and a few do some occasional active petitioning for it to happen. The amount they care may correlate very strongly to how successful their post-Community careers have been, of course :)
OMG. Six seasons. And a movie. My god.
