The best places to ask Johan this stuff would be the official Conquest of Elysium 3 forum at Desura. Or sending email to Illwinter to the address info(at)illwinter.com

As for why Conquest of Elysium has seen so little activity of late, I don’t know. From November 2012 up until Christmas getting Dominions 3 launched on Desura took a surprisingly large amount of time and Illwinter does do their game development and other such activities on their spare time after their day jobs. Possible work related projects and deadlines would easily freeze their game development projects since Johan, being the programmer, does all of that.

With Conquest of Elysium 3, during the beta I also got the very distinct impression that it was a lot more Johan’s project than Kristoffer’s, based on the amount of interaction with the beta testing team. We saw a lot more of Kristoffer during the times Dominions 3 was still published by Shrapnel whenever there was a new patch coming out than we did during the CoE3 beta. Johan handled almost everything.

But whatever the reasons, since we are not privy to them, you need to talk to Illwinter yourself to get the answers.

Luckily Johan, the programming side, is quite responsive in the official forums.
Kristoffer, the thematic and graphic side, not so much but still there.

Even if the devs dont see it immediately (which is rare) one of the beta testers is bound to reference it in the beta forum or even email it to them if it is worded properly.

From years on the Dom3 forums I stress that. Looking at the conversations that got actions vs those that didnt it is clear that some asked and others argued or justified.

Oh and Johan took a long vacation around Europe. Altho that did gain us an answer that Android screens dont work well for CoE3 but then we got a mobile version of CoE3 for the Raspberry PI. (nice “vacation” Johan :)

Yeah, 2.50 for the game. Not sure I will play it, but I will own it on steam.

All right. Sorry for creating a new thread.
Are there any NON-dominions3 players playing Illwinters other game Conquest of Elysium 3?

A lot of the Dom3 diehards dont like it but that doesnt surprise me. Im really enjoying the game but the features I like are not the similarity to Dom3 but the differences. So until the Steaming Horde show up I am at a loss to find CoE3 players to discuss the wonders of the team play and the scenario creation features with.

You just posted in this thread a few weeks ago, and many times, did you forget it existed?

Good to know it’s on sale in Steam, I wanted a Steam copy for some time! Thanks!

Your CoE Desura key should work in steam, mine did.

Oh! Good to know! I’ll give it a try tonight. Thanks!

CoE3 is on sale for 75% off right now on GamersGate.com
That is a cost of $2.50 US

is this good in singleplayer (which mean, is the AI not terrible?)

sorry if the question has already been answered.

Personally I think its great but that will probably get laughed at by some. :)
But the developer also says that their Dominions 3 game was more multiplay and less solo, which this one is more for solo and less multiplay.

It is definitely better than Dom3 for solo. In this game the nations, the independents, the monsters, all have separate AIs so they act totally different. The Baron acts different than the Troll King with different goals and priorities. The best part about that is you can team with an AI and enjoy it.

Another thing I love is that it can play with more players on bigger maps than anyone really wants to play on. I love that freedom.

Of course there is also the fact that any complaint anyone does have, can be modded. :)

No, the AI isn’t at all good.

I think its an excellent single player game. But as (I think Tom?) said: Its more fun if you think of it as a sort of Strategy Roguelike game, rather than a Civ style empire builder. If you go in with the wrong expectations it can put you off.

It’s pretty bad. AI can’t win you with twice the resources unless you have bad luck.

There definitely need to be more campaigns and scenarios made for this game but there are some already available:

Here is the “Trial by Fire” ladder for new players. It sets up games vs the AI in growing levels of difficulty.

Im not sure if anyone has finished it yet.

Beyond that are some downloadable campaigns. One is setup for one AI set to the maximum level in the middle of the map and all of the other players are supposed to play allied together to beat it. Another one is even beyond that, harder than AI at maximum because it puts an AI in charge of all of the independents on the map.

The single AIs are good enough for new players. Or you can play against a bunch of AI if you can concentrate on one at a time. But some of the teams are really rough. If you team Troll King with Dwarf Queen. Or team the roman Senator with Barbarian hordes or the Druids. Team the medieval Baron with the religious Voice of El. Team the Witch with the Warlock. (and of course I highly recommend you also team with an AI)

As others have noted, you may want to look elsewhere if you’re looking for a single player game with strong AI. As for me, I couldn’t care less about the state of the AI - too hard, too easy, whatever. Oops, I lost a game? Fire up a new one. Oops, I won in 5 minutes? Let’s play again! There’s no real incentive to “win,” per se, but I think it doesn’t really need one. For me, the satisfaction of this game is the thrill of exploration - to see what’s in store around the corner, and to see what this or that stack of dudes can do against mine. To see the cool effects caused by the changing of the seasons. I’m continually discovering new, cool things and always getting a taste of the history of this world. As far as I’m concerned, CoE3 has few equals when it comes to creating a sense of “place” when playing the game.

(I was semi-ninja’d by wisdomchild)

From my experience with the game, it is largely irrelevant whether the AI is good or not. I think its passable, but nothing to write home about. And, like GP explained in the previous post, the AI can be helped out for more of a challenge if you set the game up the right way.

But I’ve always considered it to be more of a game of exploration with some conflict and a vague goal of being the last man standing, rather than a game of conquest and armed conflict. I typically play games on very large maps with only two or three opponents, just so I can see what the game has to offer me as far as unique monsters, events, and special sites are concerned.

Well said by both you. And quite good timing. I didn’t give CoE3 much of a chance, but you both are motivating me to re-install.

Im glad to hear the “explore” over “win” comments also. Im working on some mods for the game now. To add Dominions 3 style world events, to add more strange places you can come across, to add some events that make major changes to the map (earthquakes, floods), one to add more groups you can run across (and each time one randomly appears there is also a random chance they will send you a message about joining your cause as mercenarys).

After that I plan to do more maps with campaigns, scenarios, quests, rewards, etc.

Sounds great, please do post links when they’re done!

Well they will definitely be on www.CoE-3.com and in the forum there.
I dont recommend putting anything but links on the official forum.
