Anyone playing it on a phone?

Yes. It looks and runs great, but the UI scaling could use some work. UI Elements are very small and text (even at the largest setting) is difficult to read. This in turn makes touch targets extremely small and hitting them reliably can be bit of a pain. And this is on a Note 3.

I’d probably recommend tablet only, if I’m honest. Could not imagine trying to play on something even smaller than my Note.

Yeah, I imagine the target here is 7"+ tablets.

Will it be making it’s way over the wall at some point? I own it on PC but I’d 100% grab it on iPad as well.

What I’ve got is smaller than a Note. Oh well.

I’m playing it on a Galaxy Note as well. The textual touch targets are small, as mentioned. However, the map itself can be enlarged by pinch-zooming. That’s a huge help, since most of your interactions are on the map.

If you’re on the fence then buy it and check it out for 15 minutes. You’ll know whether you can handle the interface well before the deadline for a refund.

I just won my first game, previously convinced it was unwinnable. The key was to choose the Druid starting faction, which can easily find resources and summon units in the field. Also, I realized that trying to keep your resources forever under your control was impossible, but making an effort to hunt down mobile independents does keep resources in your grasp longer.

On desura, they mentioned having problems getting on that operating system. If they get good sales, they might consider it.

I’ve started playing this, although I knew that CoE 4 was improvement on many levels. The price was only 2.5 euros on Steam at the moment (in Europe) and I couldn’t refuse it. :)

Fantastic stuff. I played CoE 2, and it is almost unplayable today for its obscure interface and how it hides information from the player, and how the battles are too fast to see what is happening, but CoE 3 improves greatly on all these problems, while remaining true to the emergent narrative nature of the series and its sense of wonder, and adding much more stuff.

I don’t mind the lack of control in battles. As Tom (the Chick one! ;) ) said somewhere, they are “analytical tools” for the player that serve the purpose of helping him/her understand the value of the units and armies. But I would like to be able to organize my ranks more orderly - for example, which melee units go to the first row, and which stay behind as reserve.

Battle afflictions are great. First time my soldier took a never-healing wound, I was really surprised, and then impressed. Is there any other game of this type - a wargame or strategy - that contains similar feature?

And the application of poison damage is awesome. Made me reluctant to attack a group of snakes much weaker than me.

Many, many hours I’ll sink here before I upgrade to CoE 4. :)

Oh man, get CoE4 as soon as you can. I feel the same way about 3 now as you feel about 2. And I loved both 2 and 3 when I played them.

I second that motion. I just started playing COE4 again and am loving it. It doesn’t allow you to edit troop layout, but combat was greatly improved in other ways. The armies were static in 3 weren’t they?

Thanks, point taken. :)

I have seen on Illwinter’s site what are the improvements, and the execution of combat is the most obvious one. Not just the tactical grid and actual positioning of units, but also the siege mechanics - first time I bumped into a fortification in CoE 3 I wasn’t sure if I would have problems without siege machines (my commander was a druid, practically only with animals). And nothing happened. The walls didn’t mean anything.

Yes, belouski, the battles in CoE 3 are with static troops, and totally abstract.

But I am also pretty enthusiastic about a much greater variety of rituals in CoE 4. One of the reasons I preferred the old Age of Wonders games (2 + Shadow Magic) to Heroes of M&M was that you could do cool stuff with your wizards on the world map, not just in battles.

COE4 does indeed have world map rituals out the wazoo. It’s always exciting to see what you get next. Great game.
